How do you take music off your mp3 player

Hello,

The Sansa c140 can be operated in MSC and MTP mode for transferring and deleting music files.
See also setting USB mode for autodetect or MSC mode on page 16 of the manual: link to the Sansa c100 series manual.

  • For deleting files a connection to a computer has to be made in either MSC or MTP mode, see page 10 of the manual.

MSC mode means that a computer will see the player as a removable disk when connected.
It's like exploring the computer detecting the player as an external memory, showing up as a drive letter with about 1 GB of memory.
Before disconnecting the player, always safely remove hardware, the icon in the bottom taskbar on the right.

MTP mode means that a computer has software installed like Windows Media Player 10 and in this software, when started, the player is being recognized as Sansa c140.
Before disconnecting the player, wait for the message that it is allowed to disconnect the device.

How to use Windows Media Player 10 ? See the site of Microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/10/using.aspx

After changing out the battery, i turned it on and

The database seems to be overloaded while rebuilding the files info and playlists.
See the answer for "Not enough space for MusicDB" :
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/848

For the c100 series connect the player to the computer how to delete files see:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/41

When linked to the computer there are 2 different connection modes possible:
  • MSC mode seeing the player as a removable disk using Windows Explorer.
  • MTP mode seeing the Sansa player as a Media device using software like Windows Media Player.
For "cleaning up" your database check both lists. How to switch to MSC / MTP mode:

Files invisible to Windows still play, can't delete.

These re the songs that came with the player even if it is brand new, and plus since these artists don't want these to be copied they use a special method to hide them form any OS, hope i helped....

Sansa 140 not working

Try copying new MP3 files to it. If you cannot do that, try downloading Sansa's Firmware Updater and following the video example on Sansa's website to update your firmware. If that doesn't work, try to get it replaced if it is under warranty. Otherwise, please dispose of properly.

Sansa c140

Download this file:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/0mc3km

This is the firmware update utility for Sanca c140 (c100 series) devices.

There is a howto.txt file included, follow the instructions.I am posting the instructions here for convenience.

1. Download the attached file and save it on the desktop.
(the player should not be attached to the computer at this point)
2. Double click the file to run it.
3. Accept the license agreement.
4. Remove the battery from the mp3 player.
5. Press and hold the center (select) button and connect it to the computer (keep holding the button, this is the firmware update mode).
6. If the New Hardware Wizard appears (now you can let go of the select button), do the following: (if asked, choose not to connect to the internet for updates), then choose to install the device automatically, then follow the prompts to finish the installation.
7. When the wizard comes up, or when the Update button becomes active (whichever happens first), you may release the select button.
8. Click the Update button, and then click OK to the message that comes up.
9. Wait until the upgrade finishes, then unplug the device.
10. Put the battery back in, and turn on the player.
11. Hopefully the update will be performed, then choose English for the language when prompted.
12. Check if the issue is resolved.
