Since upgrading 2 of our MC50 devices from PPC2003 to WM5.0
we are experiencing a battery power drain problem. Over a 24
hour period, the battery will discharge down to almost 0% when
the device is left out of the charge/sync cradle. This problem
did not appear to happen with the MC50 with PPC2003 OS, it
may have only dropped down 2 - 3% battery drain.

Try to "three key" the device. Hold the bottom left and right key (No & Enter button on my device) and whilst holding press the power button. This will boot into DOS/Tcal prompt. Also check the battery contacts and ensure the battery is well charged.
It sounds like it is. Fully charge the device to 100% and allow it to drain fully until it completely powers off, then recharge to 100% again while the device is powered off (usually takes 2 hours +) if that doesn't alleviate the 'memory effect' then the battery has reached the end of it's useful life and should be replaced. Good luck!
I have the same problem. The Symbol website has some information on this problem:
