Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Motorola Quasar TV and an outside UHF Antennae. I have coax coming from Ant. There are 3 coax connectors on the back and one pair of screw terminals for 300 ohm flat lead in cable that is labeled UHF. I am using a 75 ohm coax to 300 ohm adapter to connect to the UHF terminals and it does work but I was wondering if I could get a better picture by using one of the 3 coax connectors. The only pfoblem is I don't know which of the coax connectors to use.

You are losing a VERY small amount of signal using the transformer. It won't even be noticeable I'm sure if you switch to the coax in but the fewer connections you go through the less the chance of a bad connection. Use regular " Ant. In " coax connection or " RF in" whichever the wording is on the back of your set. Good Luck!

Panasoics plasma viera rv will not auto tune telling us to insert aerial already in Model TH-P50X20Z

The manual for this TV can be found here. If you are watching broadcast television, or cable TV service that does NOT require use of a set top "cable box" tuner, you would connect the coax cable from the UHF / VHF antenna or cable into the ANT cable connector on the rear of the TV as shown on page 8 & 9 in the manual.

You would then tell the TV setup to scan for available channels as shown on page 12 of the manual.

If you are using a seperate tuner - like those supplied by Cable TV, Dish, DirectTV, Satellite, etc. you should use (1) the HDMI 1, 2 or 3 inputs (HD) 720P and up; (2) the RGB inputs of AV2 for best picture quality 720P or better (HD), (3 & 4) the AV1 & AV3 (on the side next to HDMI) for 480i and possibly 480P (SD) and finally the ANT connector for 480i. If you have a computer that offers VGA jack to connect to an external monitor, use the PC connector on th erear of the TV to send it HD images.

Page 27 & 28 detail manual channel editing.

Good luck!

How do i connect areil lead to outside ariel

you don't say what kind of wire you are using. If using coax, just screw the coax connector onto the back of the set, the other end should fasten to the connector on your outside antenna, If you are using 300 ohm wire, then you need to purchase an adapter that goes from 300 ohm to coax connector (these are called balun connectors) you can get one at radio shack..

xtreamz_69,

It sounds like you connected the coax cable to your TV. What channel is the TV set on when you have the Freeview connected? Because you are using a coax cable, the TV should be set to either channel 3 or 4 (normally channel 3). Check to make sure your TV is on one of those channels. Also verify your receiver is on. Your TV has the several other type ports (HDMI, component, composite) as alternatives to pick up your picture. If you have any other questions, please post to this site.

Trouble with remote on second TV, not responding from back of house

Hi, Mary with Dish Network Customer Service. The TV2 remote (UHF) can work up to 200 feet from the receiver but can also get interference issues that cause it to not work consistently. One of the things that I recommend is to readdress the remote to the receiver and possible installing a pigtail to the remote antenna on the back of the receiver. I have this on one of my receivers and have never had an issue since. To troubleshoot try these steps:

Step 1: Verify correct Remote being used
Check that the remote matches the TV. Use remote key or sticker on remote to confirm. TV1 is located in the same room as your DISH receiver.
Step 2: Check that UHF Remote Antenna is Secure/Upright
If UHF, check that your UHF remote antenna is securely connected to the "Remote Antenna" port on the back of your receiver and that the antenna is upright.
Step 3: Address Remote
To SAT: Access "System Info" - press and release the "SAT" button then press the RECORD button on remote control. If unable to access System Info using the receiver, use "Video Frozen/Locked Up".
To TV/DVD/AUX: Check for current remote codes and address remote.
Step 4: Check that Remote Control Batteries are Fresh
Check that the you have recently replaced the batteries. If not, install new batteries.
Step 5: Reset Receiver
If the issue is only on ONE receiver, unplug the DISH receiver for 10 seconds and plug back in.
Please note: It may take up to 5 minutes for the reset process to be completed.

If you are still having an issue, to install a pigtail you will need a piece of Coax cable, approx. 3 feet long and a barrel connector. Remove the remote antenna from the back of the receiver, attach the coax cable to the receiver. At the other end of the coax cable insert the barrel connector and add the remote antenna. Then drape the coax cable behind and towards where the TV2 is located. It takes the remote antenna away from where all the electronics are, which are major causes of UHF interference. I hope this helps resolve your issue.

Dish hd dvr remote won't work. brand new. it

It sounds like you have interference, try removing the uhf ant from the back of rec and promgram it straight from there. you can also hookup "bunny ears or a pigtail coax to the uhf ant port to increse uhf signal. also make sure the uhf ant is standing straight up.

No recption pass channel 12

judging by the year, this set should definitely be cable ready. check the front of the tv if it has a control panel for a switch that says catv/normal or something similar, if it does not have that switch, check the settings via the remote.

the channel a connector may require an adapter depending on the type of connector. i had an old tv that required an adapter in order to plug the cable coax into it, it resembled an rca connector and is used on some older tv's in place of a screw on connector.

if all else fails, your cable company should be able to provide you with a tuner/converter for free or minimal charge.

i hope this helps,
trin
