Question about Panasonic DMR-E75V DVD Player/VCR

1 Answer

Suddenly cannot record DVD after years

I can see the frames of different past recordings, and can play them fine, but, when I close that screen, expecting to see TV through the DVD, all I get is "UNUSABLE SIGNAL"... which means I can no longer record. What in the world has happened? Please someone...

    Channel for the TV must be set to channel 3 normally, but I'm pretty sure that I must select the who/input button on my RCA remote to be able to see recorded DVDs. I would expect that the same source setup would let me see the playbacks and see live tv and record, butI think that must bypass the TV somehow.

    I cannot record anymore, but the TV should be on 3 and I record whatever channel the cable box is on.

    The cable box is a Scientific Atlanta... installed in 2002... that's all I know (away from home).

    When I stop playing a DVD, the screen goes back to "no input" or some such message with a blue screen.

    I don't know how to try changing/cycling through the different input/source of the Panasonic DVD nor changing/cycling through the different input/source of the Panasonic DVD

    I have a Wii game console in my setup. BELOW is my whole setup:

    1) From wii proprietary cable to ----> input B of an A/B switchbox

    Using triplet (white, red, yellow) audio/video connections....

    2) From Panasonic DMR-E75V to ----> Input A of the A/B switchbox

    3) From the A/B switchbox out to -----> TV

    Using cable connections:

    From wall cable to ----> cable box

    From cable box to ----> Panasonic DMR-E75V (rf IN)

    From Panasonic DMR-E75V (rf OUT) to ----> TV

    Perhaps in my jumbling trials of variations, I have messed this routing up. I hope this tells you something. Please help. Thank you for answering me.

    Technically I have a Wii game console in my setup that must be considered, as it turns out. BELOW is my whole setup:

    1) From wii proprietary cable to ----> input B of an A/B switchbox

    2) From Panasonic DMR-E75V to ----> Input A of the A/B switchbox

    So you think my connections setup is correct?

    I am pretty sure that when I try to record cable TV as your last instruction illustrated, when I set the RCA to input... that is when I get the "unusable signal" or similar error language with blue screen. j

    I will test it again later today and post again,. Thanks.

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

    The trick was the Panasonic DVD recorder/player being SET ON CHANNEL 3 like the TV!! Somehow that had been changed by whomever.

    It works perfectly now! Thank you for the wonderful reply, which contained the magical answer to my problem!!

    I have same problem. Suddenly I can not play home recorded, non finalized DVDs. Machine does however play pre-recorded DVDs. I get a 'not recognize' message on tv screen. I can not figure out how to put in service mode to see if I can fix it. Any suggestions? Machine is: Panasonic DMR-E75V Thank you.

Hi,

Apologies for the delay in response. Your concern was just brought to my attention.

To your recording, based on your second posting (and would appreciate corrective information where applicable), your system is:

  • Cable provider > Cable Decoder Box > Panasonic DMR-E75V > TV (equipment setup)
  • single coaxial cable > yellow, red & white > yellow, red & white (wiring setup).
With your indulgence, a couple clarifying questions:
  • to watch the Panasonic when you play DVDs, to what channel or source or setting must the TV be set to?
  • to record a TV program/channel, to what channel or source or setting must the Panasonic be set to?
  • what is the brand and model of your Cable Decoder Box?
Initially, pls try:
  • play any known good DVD disc/movie. power on the TV and set to watch said movie;
  • without changing anything on the TV, STOP the playing of the DVD;
  • try changing channel on your Cable Decoder Box's remote;
  • pls post back result(s); or
  • do the above steps again but before changing the channels on the decoder box's remote;
  • try changing/cycling through the different input/source of the Panasonic DVD;
  • again post back result(s).
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    If understand your postback correctly and our initial try based on your description:

    to watch cable TV:

    • the RCA powered ON & must be set to Ch3;

    • the cable box powered ON and channel selection done there;

    • the Panasonic can be powered OFF;

    • the A/B switch can be in any position.
    to record cable TV:

    • the cable box powered ON and channel selection done there;

    • the Panasonic must be powered ON and set to channel3;

    • the RCA powered ON & must be set likewise to Ch3; or

    • the RCA powered ON & set to INPUT with A/B switch set to"A".
    to watch DVD playback:

    • the RCA powered ON & must be set to Ch3; or

    • the RCA powered ON & set to INPUT with A/B switch set to"A";

    • the Panasonic must be powered ON and playing a DVD;

    • the Scientific Atlanta Cable Box may be powered OFF;
    to watch Wii game console:

    • the RCA powered ON & set to INPUT with A/B switch set to"B";

    • all others maybe powered OFF.
    Cheers.

    Appreciate the quick postback. A few quick notes:

    • So you think my connections setup is correct? - basically yes;

    • record cable TV ...set RCA to input..."unusable signal" - pls verify that the Panasonic is set to Ch 3 and A/B switch set to "A";

    • and post again - would appreciate update on any development(s) (or even the lack of it).

Set-up (Programming) procedure is too much to type in here, and is not practical and it will differ brand-to-brand remote controls. If you wish to get more; check the sites linked here. The site has set-up code list & set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. The site has general set-up codes to check with TVs and other devices are given, in the order of the 'device's brand name list' in alphabetical order. The inability to read DVD+R disks probably is the reason the recorder was offered for sale on eBay.

Just bought a new smart tv and my panasonic recorder keeps saying not connected - why

Usually this message is because there is no direct connection between the recorder and the TV!

where do you see the message, if on the recorder then check cable connections! if on TV then turn on the recorder!

Lock message

Hi!
My DMR-ES10 appears since last month, the same message, and lets myself crazy!

Today, after a desperate try, pressing the buttons, I found the solution:

Simple press the POWER BUTTON and STOP BUTTON of the unit for a few seconds...

VOILá: The UNLOCK message appears in the display and the unit return to operate without the lock message !!!

For Lock again, press the same buttons at same way until appears the Lock message in the display.

This is an undocumented command...

I hope to help you!
