Delete the drive and remove all drivers. reattach the drive ( i asssume it's a usb 2.0 enclosure ) then reinstall the drivers or better yet go out and download the lastest greatest drivers from the mfg. website that makes the enclosure. The bottom line is quite simply "you could pull the wd120 out of the enclosure and it would (if properly jumpered) readily install into your machine. Sounds like the machine and the external interface are not on the same page.

The hard drive may be failing, or just the OS or hard drive corrupted. You could try this... Pull the hard drive out, and use a USB Hard Drive Adapter to connect the hard drive to a friend's computer, and save all the personal files (documents, pictures, etc.) you can to a folder on the friend's computer or an external hard drive.
Then, you could try to do a Factory Restore on the computer, and if that works, copy your personal files back to your newly restored computer.

I can not boot up my computer

The hard drive or some other critical component may be failing, or just the OS or hard drive corrupted. If you have files that you do not want to lose, you could try this... Pull the hard drive out, and use a "USB Hard Drive Adapter" (available fairly cheap online) to connect the hard drive to a friend's computer, and save all the personal files (documents, pictures, etc.) you can to a folder on the friend's computer or an external hard drive. That way, at least you may not lose your files.
Then, you could try to do a Factory Restore or Reload on the computer, and if that works, copy your personal files back to your newly restored computer.
Your manual, available here, explains your Restore options... http://www.manualslib.com/manual/253469/Gateway-710xl.html#product-LX6810-01 - LX - 8 GB RAM

Dell dimension wont boot after power outage and stops half way through the boot page

Hello,

The problem is with the corrupted boot files .In my opinion you have one solution
Steps for solution

1. Download an operating system called ' Linux mint ' which can be installed in the pen drive having minimum 4 gb capacity . Using this operating system you can access the computer .

2. Copy the file and folders to an external storage device (external hard disk, pen drive etc..)

3. Reinstall the operating system ( XP,Vista ,Window 7,Ubuntu etc )

Hope you be successful

My Maxtor 120 GB external hard drive is not compatible with windows XP

Most likely you'll need to covert the file system on the Maxtor drive to NTFS

Example command:

CONVERT E: /FS:NTFS

I have a WD passport external hard drive and I want to download the stored files from my old computer to my new one and I can't open the zipped files?

hi-

do you have a winzip application/program installed on your old computer? try downloading the 7zip app, then try extracting it again. one other cause maybe is that you have a corrupt file, try zipping file again and then transfer it.
