Parts inside printer turn out to be ink pads that might overflow. Epson say you need an 'engineer'. Is there any way round it?

  • Anonymous Dec 15, 2008

Changed my ink supplers, no problem at first but all of a sudden Red Light flashing and message reading that Epson not recognising ink. Tried all ways but to no avail. Alleready paid £15 on two occasions previously to correct this problem and dont want to have to pay out every time i am changing a cartridge. What can i do to get my printer working again. ?

  • DAVEM370 Jan 01, 2009

Immediately after the ink charging indication after changing my black ink cartridge, The end of service life notification was displayed. I have been using the cartridges for years without any problems. Tried reloading the software and rebooting without any success. The printer had been working satisfactorily until the cartridge change. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. I do have some technical knowledge and ability.

I FOUND IT! I KNOW HOW TO FIX:
This saved my printer:

  1. Unplug the power and USB cables from the printer.
  2. Prepare your work area by putting scrap paper down. Have somespare, just incase. You may also require tissue paper. It is alsorecommended you use protective gloves as the ink will stain your skinfor quite some time. Its really messy, trust me.
  3. Look at the back of your epson c46 there will be a "door" a small square that removes. Take it off.
  4. There will be 1 or 2 "spongey things" inside your printer, remove them. Sounds easier than it it. Can take up to half an hour.
  5. Take the scrap paper with the pads on to your sink, turn on the hottap and hold each one under the tap using the pliers until the waterruns clear. If you have protective gloves on it may be worth squeezingthe water out also. Don't use soap ect.
  6. It is recommended that once you have done this, you let them dry.
  7. Now return the pads back into the printer.
  8. Plug in the USB and power cable and turned it ON. (Yes the lights will still flash)
Part 2:
  1. Download and install the SSC Service Utility for Epson Stylus Printers.
  2. Select your printer and model number (There is no Stylus C42 UX, so select Stylus C4x), then close the window.
  3. You will see a SSC Service Utilitiy icon (it looks like a printer) in the system tray (next to your click), and LEFT click.
  4. A menu will appear, from here you can click on “Protection counter” (its a red cross), then “reset protection counter”. You might have to do this a few times..
  5. Turn the printer power OFF, wait 10 seconds and then turn it back ON.
Good luck guys!!

SOURCE: service life has ended on my epson stylus r320 photo printer

I have had a R300M for a while now and had a few cartridges in it. (Mostly Compatible Cartridges not OEM) Recently a message came up on the screen 'parts inside your printer are at the end of their life' and the printer refused to work!
After searching the web it appears to be a waste ink counter, but I could not find any info on resetting it.
Tried pressing different combinations of buttons on the printer and success. (Found Ink counter reset)

Press and hold 'stop' 'maintenance'(ink button) and 'power' buttons for about 10 seconds,(while printer is on) a message will come up on the screen saying counter is reset and to turn off.

Thats it, turned my printer back on, and all works fine again.

I hope this helps R300/R300M owners out!
(Also I have email into Epson Support, can't wait to hear what they say the problem is for the fix!)
Good Luck,
Steve H.  :-)

Reset the waste ink counter!
Assuming you have completed your modification you can reset your printers waste counter using this method (I did this and it worked on the CX6400) can't guarantee it works on all)
1. You will see big button on your printer like power on (this is on the left
2. side), black & white photocopy, color photocopy, and then the stop button (these are on the right side).
3. first turn off your printer
4. push the b/w + color + stop buttons together and hold
5. push the power on button and hold (so you'll now be holding down 4 buttons together)
6. Don't release all the buttons until you see the light indicator is blinking and then a message display on the lcd
7. release all the buttons
8. push the color button (once)
9. turn off the printer
10. turn it on again
After this one may need to reload the printer driver and locate the printer!

" parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life.

This usually happens when the waste pads become full and need to be replaced.
You can try to do it yourself like this guy did on his printer:
http://www.hm2k.com/posts/parts-inside-your-printer-are-at-the-end-of-their-service-life

you can actually just use the software to reset the printer but eventually the pads will overflow and start to leak.

The last option is too take it to Epson and ask for a quote.
