Most likely a capacitor has been damaged. Is this set still under warranty? If so, please request warranty service. The power supply module may need to be replaced. If you can post the ,ake and model number, I can get you the part number and cost if not under warranty.

Thanks,
Dan

Unplug set and do not plug again---something has burned so there is a risk of fire---unless you are familiar with fixing sets consider having a tech come out or take set to a shop for a estimate.

Repetative clicking sound when tv is plugged in with no picture or sound like its unable 2 switch on

TV is very common for having a power failure issue. The problem resides in the Y-Sustain board in most cases. The HDTV Television also have the same issue as they all use the same PDP Panel (plasma panel).

Loud popping and loss of power is common on plasma TVs and is usually either the Y sustain or Z sustain boards or buffers; in these instances the damaged part will be quite evident.

If this is an LCD you might have degraded insulation on one of the pink/blue back light power leads causing high voltage to 'arc' to the chassis.

The loud bang and smell is actually to your advantage as in these circumstances the damaged part is usually evident. It'll just be a matter of popping the back off and sleuthing around

That's the sound of your power supply going bad. You will have to have it repaired by a professional television technician.

Before making any purchases, please check the part and make sure it is what your TV needs. I am simply making recommendations and trying to point you to the right direction.

Good luck.

I have A line that runs vertically thru my Mitsubishi Plasma TV. It look like Plasma burn, but its not. Its in the exact middle of the screen and its getting worse. Have you seen this before? Please Help...

if you take the back of the tv off, there are 2 boared on the left side, sometimes it is one, you will see ribbon connectors that goe from those boards- int the panel, alot of times you can umplug those, then plug them back in, it solves the prob sometimes, if it doesnt, turn the tv on, then unplug it- while still on, after 20 seconds- plug it back in, it will do a reboot, and turn itself back on, if the line is still there, it is most likely a defective panel, if your not under warinty, unfortunatily- it is cheeper to buy a new tv, hope this helps a little

Samsung hdtv HLP5085wx no image. Smelled something burning and sparking, turned off the tv. Tried turning it back on = have sound, NO image!

OMG! Dude, your screen is just plain fried. You don't need a new screen though, You just need a new bulb for it. See, behind the screen is a light bulb (unless your T.V. is plasma screen), sometimes two or three, and that burning smell was the bulb blowing (like when you need to replace a light bulb in a lamp or something). I don't know where you can find a new bulb, but once you replace it everything should be fine.

I have a LG Plasma and have suddenly heard a bang, then picture deteriorated significantly, and after a couple of minutes the unit has switched iteslf off. Bad smell of something burning.

This is usually a good indication that a capacitor has failed. If the unit is still under warranty, request warranty service. If not, then you can look for cylindrical parts that have domed tops. These are usually blown capacitors. Post here what ever is written on the part, and we'll indicate what you need for a replacement.

TV shuts off by itself and has a burning smell

mine is doing the same thing but i was able to pinpoint it to a capacitor arching and smoking. haven't replaced it yet so i'm not sure if it's just a bad capacitor or a more involved issue.
