Is that the only disc you seem to be having the problem with?? If so try getting the disc repair kit and using that. I had the same problem with mine but it was only some of the discs. The ps2 slim can be very sensitive and even the slightest defect in a disc will cause it not to recognize there is even a disc there.
I have read that some manufacture PS1 memory cards will not work properly on the PS2. I would suggest trying another PS2 to see if it's a problem with your specific PS2. If the memory card doesn't pop up on the browser screen of another PS2, it could be defective or incompatible. If it does work on another PS2, it could be something weird going on with your memory card slot on your PS2.
there is a small button in the slim that picks up the door open or closed. if the plactic pic on the lid is broke it will read as the door open even if the door is closed. you can takeit apar tand tape down this switch.
The PS2 has always had trouble with certain discs. And yes you can often tell by the "color". RE4 although from ancient was pre PS3 and basically some of the newer games wont work on the "old" PS2's as well. Partially due to the fact they are a bit dirtier and worn out and cant read the faster speeds as well. You might want to consider purchasing a "new" PS2 ($99) that wont have the same problem.
I am having the same problem with my PS2, but I have an HDD inside of mine. I am told this is a circuit problem inside the PS2 that doesn't allow the information to be transfered to the RAM.That's why you see “No Data” instead of the usual problem of “Disc Read Error”.I hate to say it, but it sounds like you are going to have to do the same thing I am about to do.Send it in to Sony and get it repaired.
I am also pretty sure this PS2 you are talking about is the large fat one, and not the slim one.
you need to run the cd lens cleaner, what i mean is that the lens of your ps2 needs to be cleaned. we have different cd lens cleaner there is dry type and something that has liquid to be dropped to the brush of the cd. you just play this to clean the lens
yeah your laser is out of line. to correct it you have to open up your console a bit. Pull the rubber feet off the bottom and unscrew the shell, be really careful when you take the two halves apart because you have wires running between them. Then unscrew the black plastic cover over the drive and underneath you should see a large white gear with a slot for a hex key in the middle. Mark off the start position on this wheel then move it clockwise by one cog, close it up and try a disc. If it doesnt work, move the wheel round one more cog and try again.
Remember different types of disc work differently, the PS2 reads PS1 games easiest, then DVDs, then PS2 silver discs, then PS2 blue discs, so try them in turn.
If you look hard enough on the web there is a detailed explanation of this repair with photos that is worth seeking out
Something may be wrong with your Controller port or the Controller itself if you cannot get out of the Browser Config Screen. Try a different Controller, or Plug you controller into a different port to see if you gain any ground. normally rebooting the console with a game disc in it will start the game automatically.
