Question about Alps MD 5000 Thermal Printer

Open Question

Alps 5000md My printer begins the print job seems to get stalled and then orange error light comes on. The beginning problem occured when the printer stalled on a color cartridge and the print did not release. Upon restarting the printer, I noticed the printing was only blue and the next time I tried it was all black when it stalled. The cartridges stack and when they don't stack, the printer shifts the cartridge to another slot. Tried printing a test page, no luck. The printer error pops up several times in the lower right hand corner. Maybe when it is trying to change cartridges? Thanks for any help.

Did you pack the printer correctly before moving? When you got the printer, it would have had a packing piece preventing any carriage movement. If you did not put this in place before packing the printer for the move, you have most likely damaged the printer beyond repair.

SOURCE: set up installation for 5000md xp will not start up

Cut or copy the driver zip file and go up a few levels and paste it on the desktop or in a folder on the desktop or in a folder in my docs and unzip ALL the files to this new folder and run setup. I had same problem. For some reason if you save the file 3-4 or more folder inside a folder inside a folder ect (you know...try to be organized?) it won't run. Whats more if you were to just move the SETUP.exe file and not the other folders (such as DATA) the install would start asking you for files that ARE in the data folder, asking you to point to them. If you did it would act like it couldn't see them...Why? I have no idea....all I know is once i moved EVERYTHING (all the files from the zip)up to the Desktop or a level below it like My docs, C drive etc it ran immediately and saw all files. You can run that SETUP and/or use add printer from control panel > printers and faxes

How to test the MD 1300 , also look on how to get error codes...

One test you can run is the self print test. Discount the printer from your computer. Load a single sheet of paper and the CMYK cartridges. Turn on the printer. Press and hold the "reset" button until the lights begin to flash. Release the "reset" button and the printer should do a self print test.

Have an MD 1300. printer begins then stops before actually doing the job. Get message: "cartridge change error - cannot complete print job." I have tried putting in a new cartridge but same...

What color are the cartridges that you are putting in? Are they blue or are they greyish in color? If you are trying to print on laser or other such paper, you need to be using the greyish cartridges. Also make sure that the cartridges that you put in have plenty of ribbon in them and that you've put them in facing the correct direction, you should be able to see the color names when you open the printer. If you don't, you've installed them facing the wrong way. Also make sure that you have all the correct colors installed for the print job. Unless you're printing strictly in black and white, you'd be surprised at what colors are needed to make a color, unless you're using pure Cyan, Magenta or Yellow. Any colors other than those will need to use a combo of those colors to reproduce colors properly. I hope this helps. If not, write back and say what steps you've followed to try to remedy the error.

Printer crashes

Hi Ann,

Check the ribbon cable that comes out of the back of the print carriage for damage / disconnection. They don't normally wear loose, but it is possible.Failing that, the print engine could have failed, which would deliver duff data to the heads, thus printing rubbish onto the page.

Cartridge changer error can be bad. Inspect and clean the changer. Try changing the order of the cartridges in the holder. Any effect? With just the black cartridge installed, try printing an internal self print test. Does that work?

T420 error lights

does this occur after while, during or after printing?

from what application are you printing?

sounds like the print you are sending may be too big for the memory of the printer, or it can not recognize the file type.
