Smoke is never a good thing. Is the set still under warranty? If so, request warranty service. If not, can you carefully open up the back and either post a photo here or post what you see? Look for burned resistors or capacitors that have bulging tops. Let us know what you find.

What has gone wrong can be checked only once you open the rear cover. Did any liquid peep in at that point? Anyhow, only a qualified service technician can assess the damage. Please do not switch on the TV, switch off the power and remove the plug until then.

I have a vizio vp50 hdtv20a. A while back we turned it on no picture and it started to smoke. After reading a little about it I decided to take off back panel and see if I could locate burnt part. Could...

That board directly connects to the display panel---you may have a bad display panel which if is the case is fatal---panel alone will cost more than the set did when new----seen this before in the shop where I repair sets.

My tv smoking and stop working

A common problem for these is bad capacitors in the power supply, Remove the back from your Tv and look at the power supply on the left hand side.

You will see roughly around 9 x capacitors that are bulged / domed shaped on top usually these are valued at 3300uf 10V any that have bulged or leaked a brown like substance should be changed.
This will cure the problem as they overheat being sat next to a heatsink that gets very hot!
Try and change them for the same 3300uf but a higher voltage.
Hope this help in solving the problem....

My 47PFl3603d\27 47 in. LCD TV is smoking from the right top side of the tv vent i need to know whats wrong with it

If you don't know about electronics you should probably take this to a repair shop. If you do and you plan on fixing this yourself then [unplug] take the back off the unit and have a look. It should be rather obvious what was smoking. The board may look burned in the area. You already know which side it was from. If it was a cap it will look puffed. The solder on the bottom may have cracks from the heat. Maybe a resistor burned up. If you find out which component burned up, I might suggest buying two replacement parts because, odds are, there's a reason that one fried. That part will be up to you to figure out. Maybe a transistor or a diode shorted out somewhere. You'll have to trace the circuit back through and test out other components. Good luck.

Screen went black smoke coming from back tv is 2007 according to back sticker still have sound

Smoke = overheating = big short = big failure of a part.
Unplug the tv immediately - you don't want t set your house on fire - and call a repaiman. Since the tv has been smoking then the damage will be extensive - a lot of parts, even entire boards, have been damaged. Te repair will be costly.

Smoke from rear of tv

I wouldn't turn it on either. Not needed, it won't work anyways, just cause more problems. You will need to have the rear panel removed and observe for shorted wires, burnt or swelled capacitors and likely a faulty power supply aka high voltage transformer

Smokes in the rear

well that isn't good. I would not use it. I would check to see if your warrantee is up(check with the store you bought it at and the manufacture----some stores have warrantees that are different than the manufactures) . also check the manufactures website for recalls on your tv. If that don't work you can take it to a electronics repair shop to fix it. But it may be cheaper just to buy a new one.

Hope this helps

Won't power up

MY TV died over a year ago and for some strange reason I never got rid of it. I recently (today) replaced two capacitors and it works great again! It wasn't difficult to solder them on- and this was the first time I've touched a soldering iron. Open the back... you will see which capicitors are bad because they will be swollen. I ordered new capicitors online (Radio Shack didn't carry them). Just make sure that you solder them on in the right direction. The first time I tried the capicitor immediatley blew, the TV started smoking, and it left the room smelling of funk for a few hours.
