Question about Dell Inspiron 1300 Notebook

Inspiron 1300 - will not completely come up

After turning on the power button. A black screen with white lettering comes up stating:
We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding, et..... choose Last known good configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed, or if you arent't sure what caused the problem, choose start windows normally.
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

I don't know what caused this problem. It was last used about 10:00 a.m. today and when trying to turn it on later today, this came up.
I have tried all modes and nothing works.

Hi holm_fischer,

White screen often caused by a defective screen. The easiest way to determine if you have a hardware or software problem is by performing a power drain. Please follow the steps below for additional instructions.

Power Drain:
1. Turn off the computer.

2. Unplug the AC adapter from the power outlet and take out the battery from the system.

3. Now, press the power button for about 15-20 seconds.

4. Put back the battery in and plug the AC adapter.

5. Turn on the system and try observing it.
--> If power drain did not work, you need to consult a repairman to have your screen be checked for possible damage.

Hope it helps.

Dell Inspiron 1300 - When I re-open the lid,Screen stays Black !

Your laptop either goes to hibernate or sleep mode when you close the lid. Then, when you open the lid up, the screen is still off because your pc already hanged/froze and could not wake up at all (usual problem in vista). Off course, hard shutdown would fix it. But actual fix is under power options on your control panel. Check your current scheme and edit it. There are options there that you can select to "do nothing when closing the lid"

Hope this helps

Someone changed my password and now i dont know it

Ok its kinda tricky but this should work fine but you have to follow these steps...

Turn the laptop on..as soon as you hit the power button start hitting the f8 button repeatedly until the screen comes up with a black backround and white lettering. Use the arrow keys to highlight and select 'Safe Mode' hit enter. When it boots into windows it will give you the option to choose the admistrator as the sign on. Choose the admin and let the computer boot up. (the screen, icons, and lettering will be large) When its up and running choose start then control panel then user accounts. Choose manage other accounts and select the one you want to remove the password from. Then select remove password from one of the options. Once that is done reboot and no more password.

Hope that is easy to follow

My Dell Inspiron 1300 wont start

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display or appear black.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Sounds like a Malware issue. I would suggest attempting to boot into Safe Mode.

Continously pressing F8 while the machine is booting from a completely powered down state will get you to a Boot Option menu.

Also, Are other profiles effected? Try them in safe-mode as well.
