Question about Microwave Ovens

Won't shut off

I have a GE microwave model wes1450dm1bb. Today when I opened the door, put something in and then closed the door the microwave turned on and wouldn't shut off with the stop button. The only way to get it to shut off is to open the door, but as soon as I close the door it starts again. I have unplugged it a number of times but the problem remains. Any idea what is causing this?

I have a Dacor 1200 Watt Microwave oven. It has worked fine for 5 years, but all of a sudden, it won't turn off. I can't get to the timer on the control panel either. the only way to turn it off is to open the door.

Advantium 120 will not shut off unless door is opened.  Tried to reset it by pulling plug and restarting, but to no avail.  Can't seem to get a good answer.  Someone mentioned door switches but wouldn't a bad door switch imply the microwave would keep going when the door is open too?

Chances are you have a shorted door switch, but all owners of a GE WES model might want to look at this blog post.

If it's been less than 30 days since you bought it, I'd hurry and take it back to the dealer for a refund, not an exchange.

Otherwise, GE Customer Service is here.

A GE model wes1450dm1bb microwave cooks and stops, but starts when you open door. The only way to stop it is to unplug it then open door. What could be the problem?

You may have a loose, misaligned, or broken door switch mount, or an intermittent door switch.

Door switch trouble is caused mostly by slamming the door or openng the door while it's cooking instead of hitting the "Stop" pad first.

My help file on door switches is here: and you can visit my helpp site at

You can e-mail me at and include your full model number and FCC ID number from the tag in the cooking cavity.

Won't shut off

You may have a problem with a door switch or door switch mount, or there may be a shorted relay on the control board, which can easily be repaired.
Our help file on door switches is here, and the Advantium 120 service manual is here.

I'm sure the magnetron overheated and tripped the magnetron's thermal cutout.

I'd strongly suggest taking it back if you can.

GE microwave. Model WES1450DM1BB. Power after the fuse runs through a sensor which rests against the metal chasis. If sensor is bypassed mircrowave works fine. Sensor evidently is open. I cannot find any...

If the part is located near a potential 'hot-spot' it may be a thermal device and possibly a thermal fuse. Once opened, they don't self-heal.
If you describe the part, I may be able to identify it better.

GE microwave won't turn off

Just checked the GE website. Had the same problem with my 5 year old microwave. GE website says to close and open the door quickly three times. First time I did this it didn't work. Second time I closed the door with some significant force and reopened it more quickly. Worked. Unplugged the microwave, plugged it back in, still fine.

Humming ge sapcesaver microwave

During operation, most of the built-in models have a panel that tilts out while the exhaust fan is on. When cooking is done, the exhaust fan shuts off and the panel retracts to its normal position. With the fan & microwave motor off, the hum is easier to hear. Look closely at the top panel the next time you hear the hum, and you'll probably see that it's retracting.
