This is a SATA drive, and they don't use master and slave jumpers. They are serial devices, and each SATA drive is connected to its own motherboard connector. The master and slave jumpers are only on the parallel interface drives (with the wide data cable), since two drives could be used on the same motherboard controller. All you need to do is install the drive, plug in the power and data cables, and Windows will assign the drive a new letter.
Try the following:
1. Try replacing the IDE cable or SATA cable of your hard disk.
2. Check the power cord if it is properly seated at the hard disk.
3. If you are using IDE hard drive. Check master or slave setting.
4. If you added a cd/dvd rom make sure it is set to a slave.
5. Try replacing another hard drive. Check if it works.
Thanks. More Power. Please rate. Let me know if you need further assistance.
if y0our going to slave one hardrive you need to set that hardrive jumper into slave format....check your hardisk if where pin should it e placed...usually there is a direction where to set the jumper for slaving the hardrive.
Have you tried goggling for data recovery software. There are a lot of free ones if you had that to your search. But, I've used several paid for ones that worked. I'd try to trail versions to download and first see if can read the drive. If it can't the next thing I would do, is to dismantle the case around the hard drive, and take out the physical hard drive and switch the back pins to Slave, and add it to your computer. (make sure you have your main drive as Master) Then as a slave drive you have a lot more options to recover data.
setup the first drive as slave ( sometimes No Jumper ) then the furthest away drive as Master.
If this fails, and you have 2 IDE Slots on the motherboard. ( Primary/Secondary ) Put 1 drive on primary as Slave. And DVD Rom As Master ( same Cable ) Then put second drive On Secondary IDE Slot. ( Set As Master Or Slave )
If none of these solutions Work For you, check to see if Both Channels are activated in the Bios.
Please one hard drive main disk and second one is slave so like this please remove the jumper for second one so first one is having the vista os (SATA) your computer will run normaly then attach the seond hard drive as slave (remove juper drive) you can see the dat (PATA)
If one of the jumpers shorts two pins and the other jumper is a single pin short, remove the two pin jumper. The single pin jumper should be located on the pin at the far upper right corner. should be set as a slave at that point.
