Question about HP Office Equipment & Supplies

I have a Photosmart C4480 All-in-one and it has been an excelent product. However, now it reports that I have a paper jam and the instructions tell me to clear the jam from the back. When it tells me to press in the tab at the back, I really can't seem to do that correctly and I can't open the door. Could you please tell me just how to do that. Thank you - --Bette Lang

Why do i have a false jam reading?


I understand that you're receiving what you believe to be a 'false' paper jam on your HP Photosmart C6280 All-in-One Printer. I would like to work with you today with resolving this issue. Paper jams can be real or false. The product might report a paper jam even when there is no jammed paper. A false paper jam may also be the result of having a bad paper jam at a point in time and that bad jam causing a hardware issue to the paper sensor or rollers. I am going to provide you with some additional troubleshooting steps that apply to both real and false paper jams. You did state that you already checked the paper pathway inside the printer and failed to find any evidence of paper being stuck, but please run the step-by-step troubleshooting below, even if you have already run some of the steps.

Carriage jam message...........comes on no matter what.........reset several times


Solution one: Turn the All-in-One off and on again Turning the product off and then on again might resolve the issue. Step one: Turn the All-in-One off and on again
  1. Press the Power button (c01602202.gif ) to turn off the product.
  2. Wait 60 seconds.
  3. Press the Power button (c01602202.gif ) to turn on the product
Step two: Print a self-test report
  1. Load plain white paper into the input tray.
  2. Press the Setup button (c01461502.gif ). The Setup menu opens.
  3. Press the arrow button to select Tools , and then press OK .
  4. Press the arrow button to select Self-Test Report , and then press OK . The self-test report prints.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , and the self-test report prints , there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , continue with the next solution.
  • If the self-test report does not print , continue with the next solution.
Solution two: Clear any jammed paper Jammed paper can cause the carriage to stall. Follow these steps to clear any jammed paper. Step one: Remove any loose paper Remove any loose sheets of paper from the input tray and the output tray. CAUTION: Do not remove jammed paper at this stage. Trying to clear jammed paper from the front of the product can damage the print mechanism. Step two: Clear the paper jam from the rear of the All-in-One Use the following steps to check for and remove jammed paper from the rear of the HP product.
  1. Press the Power button (c01602202.gif ) to turn off the product.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the product.
  3. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
  4. Squeeze the tab on the rear access door to release it, and then pull the door outward to remove it from the product Figure 1: Open the rear access door
  5. Gently remove any jammed paper from the rollers inside the product. CAUTION: If the paper tears while removing it from the rollers, check the rollers for torn pieces of paper that might remain inside the product. If any torn pieces of paper remain inside the product, more paper jams are likely to occur.
  6. Reattach the rear access door. Gently push the door forward until it snaps into place.

My printer quit printing. Carrag jam comes up on the screen when I try to print something out. There isn't anything jamming it. What can I do to fix it


Issue:

A 'Carriage Jam ' error message displays on the product control panel. The carriage, which holds the cartridges, stalls against the left side of the product. A paper jam might have occurred previously.
