I have a Radeon 7000 PCI I am attempting to install in a HP 8665C with an I810 Chipset (onboard video)using Win XP Home. I have attempted to follow the instructions given by HP on their support Website for this specific issue but they only give directions pertaining to Win 98,ME.
However, I have completed a couple of steps with no luck. I enabled the VGA Mode in setup and with VGA Controller disabled, I attempted to install the card...no luck. I just get an HP bluescreen hang on initial startup. I also tried enabling the VGA Controller and tried to reinstall again and got the same resultHP blue screen hang.
If anyone has had this problem and knows a workaround for this please let me know!! I have looked everywhere for info and have already been on the phone with HP and ATI to no avail.
I'm not sure I experienced the same problem, but, I installed an ATI Radeon PCI card in a PC running XP Pro and it wouldn't boot. I pressed F8 to access the Windows boot menu (press immediately after the BIOS info clears) and selected the option to boot in VGA mode. I suspect the option to boot in Safe mode would also work.
Once booted, I installed the latest ATI Radeon drivers, then restarted. Everything has worked fine since then. I suspect the problem is with the video driver built in to Windows XP...not compatible with the Radeon PCI graphics card.
Hope this helps.
Frank
