Hello agoche,

The problem you are experiencing is a power supply problem. If the sound is affected then the problem is that either a fuse has blown or the HV shutdown circuit has activated due to excessive current flow. If the sound is not affected this means that your TV may have a problem in the HV section where the IHVT or the HOT has malfunctioned and thus the High Voltage is not working. Now I have also seen in these type sets problems with the convergence amplifiers causing problems with the power supply.

To fix this problem you must first isolate what is wrong with the TV. To isolate the problem you will need the schematic for the TV (even though you have the blinking LED this just tells you that the set has a power supply problem)

Once you have a schematic you can then use a multimeter to tests the various test points as located in the schematic, compare the measured values with the values on the schematic and note the erroneous measurements. Whichever section is not giving you the proper readings you should concentrate on that section to find the problem.

One place that I buy parts from is:
http://www.electronix.com

Now I must say that if you do not have a background in electronics I would suggest that you get a qualified TV repair person to do this work for you, because you will be dealing with dangerous voltages that can kill you if you make a mistake.

I wish you well

Thank you,

With this particular model, 5 blinks means white balance failure (Not balanced)

Possible causes: Video out (IC7101, 7201, 7301) is faulty (CR, CG, CB board), CRT drive (IC309) is faulty (A board), G2 is improperly adjusted. Symptoms of the problem: No raster is generated, CRT cathode current detection reference pulse output is small.

I think this might be one to call a quailified repairman on.

Hope this helps,
Chad

The 5 blinks means:
1. Video OUT (IC7101, IC7201, IC7301) is faulty. (CR, CG, CB Boards)
2. CRT drive (IC309) is faulty. (A Board)
3. Screen (G2) is improperly adjusted.

To repair this failure you should be familiar on the use of a multimeter, soldering/desoldering iron.

Sony rear projection screen is red then tv shuts off

Can be 1 of 2 things. 1st the red tube just needs the voltage to it turned down. In the front of TV (you have to remove the lower front half of TV to access it) is a plastic square with 6 knobs. The from left to right top knobs control focus for blue, green red. The bottom knobs control voltage to each tube in same order (so lower right knob for red) turn SLOWLY to left to reduce voltage until excessive red and lines go away. If you over turn left or right set will turn off. If that does not fix it or if lines reappear then option 2 is that red picture tube is failing outright and needs replacement.

I had this problem and at the same time I was getting blue tint. When the blue got darker, this would happen, Adjusted the voltage on the guns (3 screws in the front - lower panel off) and the blue went away and it stopped turning off. But later, it would start all over again. Same procedure, same fix.
