Question about Sony RDR-VX530 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

Language Setting A customer bought 4 DVDs from my company. There is a Eng./Span. language option on them, but she can only get them to play in Spanish. We think it is operator's error, since we don't usually get complaints of this sort for one DVD, let alone 4. I am trying to help her (because she is a nice lady!) She admits she doesn't know anything about DVD players. She tried to call a Sony 877 number listed in her manual for help, but the Canadian number doesn't seem to be working for her. Is there a setting on the DVD player itself that needs to be changed? Is there a ph. # she can call for help; she doesn't have a computer. Thanks, Becky desert29palms@gmail.com (760)362-1338

Thanks, Jim. She says she went to the main menu and found the language setting. She highlighted "English" and pressed enter. She says it continues to play in Spanish. We rarely have complaints of this type, and the fact that she has 4 that will only play Spanish suggests to us that something is not right on her end. We would send her four more DVDs if we really thought that would solve the problem.
My supervisor thought that in addition to the setting on the DVDs themselves, maybe there is something on her DVD player that needs to be adjusted. Is it possible that the machine is somehow locked on Spanish?
    Thanks again,
    Becky

Becky,
Today's DVDs are pretty dynamic. They offer the consumer a plethora of options depending on the company that produced the DVD. From the main menu there is an option for languages. The consumer would need the remote that came with the DVD player and use the arrow keys to manuever the highlighted text onto the languages options and once there press the enter/select button. This will bring them into a menu with all the languages that the DVD will play in some even give you the option for subtitles as well. I suspect the consumer either does not have the remote anymore or it is the case you stated in your post. I want to thank you for using Fix Ya and I hope I have been of help. Please provide me with your feedback and if you need further assistance please let me know.

Becky, without knowing her DVD model and make it is definitely hard to pinpoint the exact problem as it may be with the tv she is using as well. I would ask her to bring the DVD's back in and try one for yourself while she watched to confirm there was/ was not an issue. If she is not in driving distance I would pay the shipping and handling to have the DVD's returned to you and tested. It is possible that the DVD player is faulty as well.

you can do 1 of 2 things ,you can buy a cheap universal remote and program it to your brand of player, once doing that you can hit the menu button and there should be a setting for language and you canswitch it to another language ,or there should be a menu button on the front of the player just push that and try different buttons on the front to be able to scroll thru your options.
