ok well it is quite easy first of all you have to set up a network by telling the computer what you want to do .. but first check your lan card is working and enabled , or if it is by telephone dial up that your modem is installed .. we do this by going to start then , control panel then device manager on device manager you will see variuos devices with a + by the side of them .. select network adapters and click the + and the box will open you will see your installed devices.. if any have a question mark or an arrow then there is a problem if not all is ok just come out and we will continue .. On the machine that the printer is connected to go to Start>Control Panel>Printer and Faxes>Right click the Printer that you want to Network and Left Click Sharing> Select the Option to Share the printer and Name it something that you wil remeber. On the Laptop go to printers and Faxes select add new printer and select Network Printer. And Choose the second option Put the Name of the Computer that the printer is connected to and then printer name. Example \\Desktop\HpPhotoSmart 8100. Also you will need to check to make sure that both machines are on the same Domain\Work Group. Go to Start>Control Panel >System>Computer Name Tab ( Here verify the Machines Name)> Join or Change Domain>Put the machines on the same Workgroup if they are not, Do the same on the laptop. To test this, on the laptop go to Start>run and type \\Desktop Name and you should see what is able to be shared. Walk thru the steps above to install the printer on the laptop and have the intall cd in the laptop to install the drivers and you should be good to go. I hope this is understandable. If not feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will see if I can clarify this for you. Happy networking!
1- set up router trough desktop
2-run program for wireless, after it gives you the IP ( which it already has, set user name and password for protection)
3-set up the laptop as a "Shared folder" along with the printer if there is one.
