Drive Mechanism Doesn't Turn

Brand new fridge, everything works fine with ice maker (ice is made, door opens up when button is pushed) but the drive mechanism isn't moving. It's not jammed - it's brand new - and I am thinking the installer forgot to do something to enable it upon installation. Help?

The shaft is turning, but the auger itself doesn't turn with it. Is there a screw that needs to be tightened?

Ice Maker Drive Mechanism doesn't turn

I think you've answered your own question! Yes, if the defroster heater went out and the whole freezer iced up, there well could have been moisture collect in and/or around the drive unit, and when the freezer started working properly the unit froze and stopped.

As big of a pain it is, I would remove all the food from the fridge, and then run a small FAN into the freezer box. A heater would thaw the unit, but a fan will thaw it AND carry out any built-up moisture. Since everything is rather covered and hidden, I would let the fan run at least 24 hours, to completely dry everything bone dry.

If that does not allow it to return to normal function, then the the unit is likely munched. YouTube has a couple of really good step-by-step videos on removing that particular ice-maker and replacing the various components of it, and there are parts lists and repair manuals online if you Google. Once you find which part you need, the part number is all you need to find the part at the best price (usually Amazon!)

Best of luck!

Ice Maker Doesn't Work

Is there ice in the ice tray? If so the heater is not working to allow the scooper to push the ice out into the tray. If no ice in tray then the fill solenoid is not opening to allow water into the tray. Replace the solenoid.

I had a similar problem with my Samsung fridge, my problem was the the ice holding unit had been taken out and not reinstalled correctly,
There is a rod on the rear of the tub and it has to be placed properly in the drive gear at the rear of the ice making housing so that it fits properly and smoothly.
If you still have a good water supply available at the door then the problem is probably what I just described, Good luck

I have a Samsung refrigerator with a bottom freezer. The 'fridge and freezer temp settings are displayed on a panel between the upper and lower doors. The unit is about 4 years old. About a year ago,...

Hi adc3,

If the display has stopped working, it is often caused by a blown fuse. Please locate the main control board and check if there's a fuse that may have blown. For the ice maker issue, please check if the ice maker has been turned off. You can check it by looking for a wire that looks like a coat hanger that is located at the right side of the ice maker. Ensure that this wire is not in the raised position. If it is turned off, just simply lower the wire to the down position to turn on the ice maker. If this did not work, please check the tooth on the drive or driven gear of the ice maker. If you noticed a broken tooth you should replace the ice maker.

Hope it helps.

SMEG FA550X fridge freezer. The ice maker has stopped working, freezer has thick ice built up at bottom, fridge does not appear to be keeping food cold enough as milk etc is going off quickly. Two to...

Your Ice maker may be the cause. if it is not holding water the water may be landing on the bottom and freezing, causing the ice build up and obstructing the air transfer from the freezer to the refrigerator. You can remove or replace your Ice maker. Then you will have to defrost your freezer to get everything back to normal.

Most of the time the bin has been removed and not put back in properly. When this happens ice blocks the drive motor. Remove the bin and turn the auger by hand make sure it will turn and is not jammed. Now with the bin out push the light button in that turns the light out and have someone push the button for ice while the door is still open the motor should turn in the back make sure thereis no ice blocking it. If it turns nothing is wrong with the motor. The clicking sound is usually the motor jammed by ice or the auger not engaged on the motor. hope this helps good luck

The ice dispenser motor is working and turning, but the ice won't come out. It appears that the mechanism in the ice bucket is not turning or moving ice out.

Check the drive on the auger motor......the peice that turns when you push the ice lever. Open the freezer door, pull out the ice bucket so you can see the drive, tape the door button or have someone hold it so the fridge thinks the door is closed, then hold the auger motor drive while you push the ice lever on the door. Those have a problem where they get stripped out and they will turn with the ice bucket removed but if you put any kind of a load on it the drive will slip and just turn on the motor shaft.
