Q RE: Pioneer CLD3080 repair

By Janice - usenet poster

" "
I've been having a heckuva time finding a qualified repairman for my
10-year-old CLD3080. I've checked the Pioneer site, called the Pioneer
line, gone through phonebooks for repair service within a 3-hr drive from
home, all without luck. I even tried contacting our previous repair guy in
Chicago but he never returned my call.

The unit was in a shop in Rockford, IL for almost 6 months because their
experienced laserplayer repairman (who sadly developed cancer) never felt
well enough to "align" a new part. The other tech (who didn't have either
the patience or skill to fix the machine) explained that Pioneer now
refuses to accept repairs from anywhere outside the factory. Guess if the
unit is faulty they just replace it.

Does anyone know of a reliable Pioneer repair service in the
Chicago/Dubuque/Milwaukee areas? Or if need be, I'll pack it up and send
it off somewhere. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion, Todd, I'll give them a call. I bought a
replacement (a DVL-919) while the 3080 was in the shop, but it's sort of,
well, cheesy and the old thing has features I really miss. I'd like to get
the beast back in working order.

I would try Electromania, 6018 W. National Ave., West Allis, WI, phone
number 414-259-0139. This shop is in the Milwaukee area, and while
none of my LD players have really required service, this would be my
first choice, as I know they have a lot of experience working on
Pioneer LD players. They have a number of old certificates on the wall
indicating training on machines like the LD-V8000, LD-W1, and CLD-3030,
and they used to perform the maintenance on the Milwaukee Public
Museum's industrial players. I believe they are a Pioneer authorized
service center.
