If you already check all the connection and tried this PS2 to a different Tv and still the same there's a big possibility that the Board of this unit is already bad and some of it capacitor are busted, better take it to repair shop and let them check this unit...

Hope that helps...........

Check the cable first.

If you checked the cables already, then probably the problem is related with dirty lens.

Try first using a lens cleaner kit, like the ones here, if it does not help, then the PS must be taken apart, and lens cleaned manually.

Neither my Playstation nor my Playstation 2 will play most of my black bottom discs..it shows the Playstation logo and sound but no picture..most are role playing .like Dragon Warrior 7 or Lunar.please...

How to Clean PS2 laser lens. Older PS2
  • Step 1 Check the lens-cleaning disk. It is important that it is free from dirt or debris. If its dirty, the disk can damage the laser lens on the Playstation 2.
  • Step 2 Press the Playstation 2 open button. Insert the lens-cleaning disk in the tray and close.
  • Step 3 Wait roughly 10 seconds for the disk to read. The brushes on the lens disk will clean the laser.
    New Slim PS2
  • Step 1 Unhook the PS2 from the outlet and the TV. If the power cord has a connection to the outlet, damage can occur.
  • Step 2 Dip a cotton swab into an alcohol bottle. Open the lid of the PS2 with the button.
  • Step 3 Use the cotton swab to rub the lens. Gently brush the laser lens with the cotton swab, covering the entire area.
  • Step 4 Wait about an hour for the laser to dry

  • I had this same issue with my Older style PS2 and I had to take it apart and manually clean the lens. It worked perfectly after that. I was extremely nervous opening up my system, but if it didn't work I was willing to take the chance.

PS2 Slim New Lens, Not Spinning

    Hi guys,
Well, there is 2 switch. one at  the back left of the cd tray and one one the reset /power switch. both sitch have to be close in order for the disk to spin.
If you try this dont forget to put a disk on the spindle as you will start the laser. this is for your safety. then, if the disk does not spin, then you can try replacing the laser. or at least verify the ribbon cable that is hook to it. if the ribbon cable is not well inside the plug the laser might move but again the disk won t spin.
it is related to each other, the PS2 seem to verify the laser prior to start the spindle so what ever happend to the laser affect the spindle.
and then, if you buy a new laser lens, don't forget to remove the soldering bridge. it is a small ball that is use to avoid static while shiping the lens.
most of the seller will include a small peace of paper with procedure and also there is web site with picture of this soldering bridge.
I replace some of them, and I have to say that the small plastic lock for the ribbon  cable to the lens has been an issue and the soldering bridge another one.
but I got most of the PS2 back and running by replacing the laser.
I hope this will help you.

    Disc wont work

    Hi AdalVI,

Your PS2 probably has a dirty laser lens. Below is a procedure for cleaning the lens on the big PS2. It does not work on the Slim PS2. Do not ever use alcohol on a slim PS2 laser lens.

I hope your in the right posting area, this is for the Phat PS2 consoles with the drawer that comes out to put the CD in. Procedure is different for Slim PS2.
    1. Disconnect power and turn the case upside down.
    2. Remove the screw covers to expose the case screws. These are little square pieces or square rubber pads. You can use a thin knife blade to pry the hard plastic squares up.
    3. Remove all the screws.
    4. Remove the Warranty sticker to the right edge of the power socket.
    5. Turn the PS2 over to set it right side up.
    6. lift the top cover from the back and pull it forward slightly to clear the CD tray. Be careful of a possibly Ribbon cable attached to the lid going to the Reset/Eject buttons. Roll the cover over to the right leaving the ribbon intact.
    7. Remove the CD tray lid.
    8. Polish the Laser lens, and remove any lint or hair from the CD area. Use Alcohol and cotton swabs to clean the laser lens. By the way, Alcohol will damage a PS2 Slim lens. All lens are not created equally.
    9. Hook up the power and A/v Cables.
    10. Remove the little white disc from the CD tray lid.
    11. Place a Disc on the spindle, and cap the disc with the little white piece that you removed from the CD tray cover.
    12. Boot up the PS2 and test it, Continue cleaning until you get it to work.
    13. Put it back together, and you’re in business.
If you have trouble you can send your PS2 to a Repair shop. Click on "Repair Directory" at the bottom of this screen. then choose "Video Game Consoles". Then you pick a Good Repair shop. My shop is listed, but I cannot divulge the name in this forum. Cost will be $25 plus shipping. Shipping is usually $8.95 to the USA

I think you will also have trouble with reading Audio CDs. This is s sign that your Laser is dirty. The following procedure is for the older Big PS2. It will not work for the Slim PS2 model. Do not ever use Alcohol on the Slim models Laser Lens.

    Hi
If it will play DVD's this is a good sign. You will only need to clean the lens of the laser. Also clean the hub that the Disc rides on.

    4. REmove the Warranty sticker to the right edge of the power socket.
    5. Turn the PS2 over to set it right side up.
