Question about Gateway MX7118 Notebook
The battery has been getting weaker for some time. When fully charged it will only last about 20 minutes, now my laptop will not power up. When I hit the start button, the button will light up and the disc light will light and it sounds like the hard drive is humming but it only does this for about 10 seconds and everything shuts down. It does not matter if the power cord is plugged in or not or if the battery is even installed, it does the same thing. The laptop worked fine (except for the short battery life), I had been using it, and when I turned it off, it never did start again. Thanks, Mike.
You have a bad battery. I had same problem before and i just replace my battery and it works fine again..

Laptop batteries are notorious for dying out and losing charge quickly. If you treat your battery with the utmost care, you'll have success in getting the most out of it. First make sure you charge your laptop battery properly when using it for the first time.
Most laptops today are equipped with Lithium Ion batteries. It's essential that you learn your model's specifications so you can follow the correct usage practices. This is the only way you'll be able to achieve maximum battery power.
The amount of time it takes for your battery to fully charge depends on many factors, like your battery type and operating system. Many newer laptops will charge in 15 to 20 minutes, while others can take a few hours. When you're charging your battery for the first time, charge it fully before using your laptop. You may have to go through a battery cycle a couple times before your battery begins performing at its maximum capability. To do this, charge your battery fully, let it discharge (through normal use) to about five percent, and then fully charge it again.
