Question about Kenmore 25.1 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator with Rotating Dispenser System
My Kenmore Elite Colspot (Model # 106.56703500) doesn not dispense crushed ice and the automatic dispenser (the one you can choose in ounces, liters, etc. how much water you want to dispense and it automatically dispenses water for you) feature doesn't work anymore. It does dispense cold water using the traditional button and it does dispense only cubes. The crush button beeps once every time I push it. I also noticed that the automatic dispense button beeps once if I push it. The refrigerator is 2 years old.
Please advise on what should I replace to make all these nice features work again.
Berg, do you have a dispenser lock-out? If so press and hold the lock-out funtion for 5 seconds. See if it comes to life. If this doesn't work you are going to have to do some checks to see if you have power to the disp. board. Check this first..Catriver..post back.

Most likely the problem you are having is with the crushed ice solonoid. It is located in the back of the freezer behing the icebucket. The little metal arm from the icebucket goes into a hole, the hole is part of the solonoid. To make sure the problem is with the solonoid, first take the icebucket out and look at the little metal arm on the bottom. When you lift it, it will open for crushed or cubed ice in the bucket dispencer hole. If it works properly then the solonoid is bad.
This repair is sometimes a really hard repair, because it is so hard to get all the stuff out of the way to replace the solonoid. You have to remove the icebucket holder and most likely the icemaker, and on some models you will have to remove the fan and several other pieces to get to it. If you feel like trying the repair let me know, I can ship you the part, I keep almost everyone of those on hand, all I would need is your model and address. My number is (865)945-3808. or my email is email@example.com . Thanks and I hope this will FixYa. Michael Anderson

Remove the ice dispenser bucket. You will see a square hole at the back wall with a horizontal rod in it. You should be able to move it up and down with you fingers. If not, it may just be frozen. Warm it with a hair blower and try again. If still no luck, the WR62X58 dispenser solenoid may be burnt out / melted and need to be replaced. It is attached to the metal just above and behind that square hole. The removable tray at the bottom of the dispenser recess is a part number WR17X12133 for a PSS26PSTA SS. Contact any GE servicing dealer or general appliance servicer near you to get one. You can get parts direct from GE also, but the won't be any cheaper, and you may pay more shipping and handling.

Carriage that moves ice bucket rod up is frozen. It's right by the auger drive mote on the left- square hole. Remove bucket and try to free it with your finger. If no luck take hair dryer until you can move it up and down.

I had the same issue and here's what I did to fix it. I pulled out my ice bin. Pushed the metal rod that's underneath it up. Pushed it back into place so that the metal rod would go above the lever in the hole in the back. Sorry- don't know any of the technical terms or names of parts, but once I readjusted the position of the rod I got ice cubes. Hope it works for you!
