The unit's diagnostics feature tells you the what exactly the issue is.
other experts recommendation basically is part of HP's recommendation that you already performed.

warranty or service since the FAX part of the printer is integrated and non-user replaceable.

Uninstall the driver of the fax machine from the pc and reinstall it again with proper instructions comming on to the screen while the software is getting loaded.and change the usb wire when you reinstall it again it is sometimes possible that if the wire gets faulty.and also check that when you connect the wire to the fax machine and the pc, does your pc detects the fax machine and the message prompts on your screen that " new hardware detected" if this message shows on your screen that means its connected and been detected.but if this does not show that means its the problem of either the usb wire or the usb jack where you r connecting the wires.

reply if done or not done.so that we can help you further in this topic.

thanks.

Please let me know the details of your problem so that i can give you a solution for it.

  • Priya darshan Oct 09, 2008

Have you tried unplugging the communications cable on both ends and replugging it in?
Have you tried a different USB port/plug on the computer?
Have you tried a new/different USB lead?
When you uninstall the printer/fax did you shut down and then start up again before you re-installed.
If the 'driver' is corrupted you may need to uninstall this too.
    After
uninstalling the printer/fax machine , Go to the Printers folder and click on FILE
    >SERVER PROPERTIES> DRIVERS (tab), locate the driver for you
Lexmark in the list and REMOVE it. Then shut down the computer!

By programming. If the Auto Attendant is the DISA card, you can tell it to listen for the FAX tone and transfer it to the fax extension, or, you can program the 3rd number to ring only the fax extension and no others. Both require programming in the system cabinet.

I have a panasonic hybrid phone system and would like to connect a fax machine, when I connect the fax to the jack, I dont get a dialtone but it goes to the intecom line. The same happens if I connect a...

Hello, you can solve this one of two ways. Try pushing a 9 when you get intercom line, you should get an outside line. So when you want to send a fax, just remember to push a 9, get outside dial tone then dial your number. Or, the second option would be to program that extension jack to auto select a line when going off hook. That will take a manual and some additional guidance. Okay, so thats for making outgoing calls. When it comes to incoming calls, you need to find out what extension the fax is connected to. You can do this by dialing another extension that has a display from the fax machine and see what intercom number comes up on the phones display. So once you know the extension number you can do one of two things. You can leave the fax off since it will most likely ring when any call comes in your office, and only turn it on when receiving a fax. When you answer the fax call on one of your other phones, and hear the beep beep beep, merely push transfer and dial the fax machines extension. That will transfer the incoming fax call to that extension and the fax machine provided you have it turned on. The other option is to break out the system manual(not user guide), and program the fax machines extension to only ring on the line you want it to, say your last line and leave the fax machine on and give out that specific number for faxes. But you do run the risk of your call traffic being heavy, incoming calls rolling over to that line or someone calling that number directly and getting the fax. I think I covered everything I can with the limited information on your application, so I hope that solved your problem.

2 fax machines on 1 line

Once you place your both fax machine on same line you will keep getting this issue. Fax machine is waiting for a fax ring signal that your other machine is sending. Shut down one machine when faxing or connect your alt fax machine to a different number this way you can send faxes when need to.

On the m9516 what is the fax switch on and off used for?

The Fax Switch
The Fax Switch feature allows you to have two telephone numbers on one incoming line.
There is one telephone number for the line and another telephone number for a Fax Switch peripheral (e.g. fax machine).
To use the Fax Switch, you must subscribe to your telephone company for Distinctive Ringing†. The telephone company will then provide you with an additional telephone number (for your Fax Switch peripheral) which will have a slightly different ring. The 9516 will use the two ring types to determine whether an incoming call is for the telephone or the peripheral. The peripheral should be set to answer after three or more rings.
Note: If Long Distance Ringing† is available in your area, long distance calls will be sent to the Fax Switch peripheral. Also, you cannot use the Fax Switch feature and the Special Greeting feature at the same time. The 9516 must be configured so the Fax Switch peripheral is connected to pins 3 and 4 of jack number 2. See Connecting an optional fax machine or modem on
page 4 for more information.

Note:
If you subscribe to your telephone company for Call Waiting services, your Fax Switch peripheral may lose data or get disconnected if someone calls while your fax is receiving data. We recommend that you do not subscribe to the Call Waiting service from your telephone company if you are using the Fax Switch feature.

I have a discontinued phone and have lost the instruction book and need to figure out why the fax machine is not letting the answering machine pick up.

you have both the fax machine and the answering machine on the same phone line.
The fax machine and the answering machine are set to answer in a certain number of rings.
In your case the fax machine is set to answer the line in less rings than the answering machine. You have to increase the number of rings of your fax so that the answering machine will work.

Dedicated fax line on system phone

If you have a dedicated fax line, the fax should be connected directly to the phone line. If you have the fax line connected to one of your station ports, you may be able to see which LED lights up on your phone when the fax goes off hook. Or you can just try intercomming all extensions in order until the fax rings.
