Smoke pouring out of motor wen trigger is switch on

Not a real good sign. Depending on the make and model you might be better off just replacing the saw. It sounds like either the field or the armature in the motor is burning up if not both of them.

Black and Decker 8 1/4" Compound Mitre saw stopped working..power one cut, nothing the next. Did the motor burn out or could it be something else? There was no smoke and no ozone/burning smell.

Could be a soldered or crimped connection internally has parted with the vibration. If its under warranty, take it back. If not and you feel competent enough to take it apart look first at the trigger switch then the motor wires. If its a duff joint it should be obvious. If its all together then get someone with electrical knowledge and a test meter. If the saw is old and had a good life, check the motor brushes for wear. If too low the motor will stop. They are easy enough to change. On a side note most of B&D stuff is chinese and much poorer quality than before. I would recommend Bosch or Makita in the DIY range.Bosch professional / Dewalt for the pro.

Saw stopped working. changed brushes. still not working.just dead.blade turns ok.not even a click

These are notorious for burning out armatures.
The replacement process is pretty involved, I would not attempt unless you are comfortable.
Remove the brushes
Remove the 3 Screws hold the motor assy to the saw
Remove the screws holding the motor housing together.
Separate the housing and you should be able to see right away if the armature is burnt (many times the windings actually blow apart)

Often when the armature burns out it also melts the brush holder assy - I would recommend replacing it as well.
If the armature appears fine then I would lean toward the switch. Makita BSS611 18V LXT Lithium Ion 6 1 2 Circular Saw Parts

It will be the brush holder in the motor has broken.......Ive just had my 4th brush holder break up, The design of them is rubbish!

Im planning on making a hole on the motor casing to accept proper brushes, Ive taken them apart and replaced the broken brush with one out of another motor and bought a faulty one for the brush holder.

It will probably be tough to find a dead one around with a good switch. You could rig a switch to it if you wanted to.Bring the old one with you and go looking for something similar. Is it a trigger switch? That would be very tough. If it is a regular on/off switch, slide type, there may be power ratings requirements so that the switch doesn't burn out.Let me know if you need help determining a power rating.Good luck! Wiring sears motor 63165

The saw should have a centrifugal starter winding switch on the shaft. The weights swing out and disengage the switch once it is up to speed. The switch probably has dust in it or a burned contact. You might be able to buy it but it should be easy to disassemble and inspect and probably clean up to work again. I did mine.
