This indercates that your computer is lagging somewhere between the modem and wow. you may want to reinstall world of warcraft and if your internet has a low data flow you may want to try testing your ping somewhere that there is very little people NOT like a major city
you may want to try diffrent servers
you may want to chek hat your background downloader is off by changing it on the launcher settings
try reseting your modem by turning it off for 15-30 secends

Having trouble getting internet connection, from modem, straight to PC. using DSL Extreme.( I need Modem settings)

Assuming you have connectivity to the router, 1st click start/programs/accessories/command prompt. Command prompt will be a medium sized box that pops up.
Will look like this where you start typing:
C:\user\computers name>_
just start typing, don't hit the space bar and type exactly what I type.
ipconfig

7 lines down, there will be a line saying "DEFAULT GATEWAY. . . . . . . . . . . .192.168.1.1
The 192.168.1.1 could be different. Write it down if you can't remember it.
Open your internet browser and type this number into the url bar( this is where you would type something like http://www.google.com at) This number will get you into the DSL router. I haven't been in this router in a long time, so my memory is a little sketchy. You should be able to access the connection page and manually make a connection.
Now this all depends on weather or not you have DSL sync with modem back to the phone co. If you can get here and you have connectivity with a solid DSL light, you shoud be able to surf. Also, from the command prompt, you can test your connection to the router by typing :
ping 192.168.1.1 or what ever the default gateway is.(there's a space in between ping and the 1)
If you can ping the router anf the connection looks solid from inside the router, test from the command prompt to see if you can ping outside the network. Type ping www.google.com It should give you 3 replies from the site.
If this happens and you still can't surf, then you have firewall settings set to high or more troule shooting is needed.

Hope this helped.

My computer can see the router and the router sees the modem but i cant get the internet to my computer

by "see" you mean it answers to ping test? if so I guess that when you ping some public IP (eg. 4.2.2.2) it does not get a ping reply... right? have you tested pinging an IP address or a internet domain. If IP address works fine but domain doesnt your problem is on DNS resolution, if both of them doesnt work seem something routing/conectivity related, try running a tracert from your PC and see how far you get on the network. If you dont pass your router then you must check its WAN configuration.

On computer it says I have a good connection but I cannot get onto internet. when I turn modem off, wait, turn it back on, I can get connected temporarily but it doesn't last. calls to comcast say they...

When you lose connection open a command window and Ping the router- modem IP address. If you get a reply yr network is good. Then ping an outside address, such as 74.125.53.104
If you get a reply then yr problem is likely to be with DNS. Go to yr network settings and specify a DNS such as 208.67.222.22

Cannot connect although plugged in

Check the ipaddress. Type ipconfig in command prompt. Then ping a website in command prompt if u get proper ip address e.g 10.132.147.121. Try to ping www.google.com in command prompt. If u are unable to connect. Tried to release renew Ip address.
Type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew in command prompt. If you are able to ping google and still unable to connect to website using internet explorer, then issue with browser or with OS.

World of Warcraft

Sounds like you need to do some port forwarding.

World of Warcraft communicates on port 3724 with the TCP protocol. The patching process requires port 3724, 6112, and 6881-6999. Once again to download the patches for World of Warcraft you should forward the following ports.

3724 TCP6112 TCP6881-6999 TCP

If you can not forward ranges of ports and are only planning on having one computer playing WoW, just forward ports 3724 TCP and 6112 TCP. The 6881-6999 port range is mainly used where multiple computers on a network may be trying to play WoW at the same time.

Ventrilo: From their web site: Click on the "Port number" input box and enter the servers port number. The program will automatically display the default port number of 3784 but you can change this to what ever the server needs it to be.

So forward 3784 or the port number you chose.

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Motorola/SBG900/SBG900index.htm for a walk through on how to do the forwarding.

Hope that helps!

ADSL modem, firewalls

What did you have her ping an IP Address or a domain name?

Was she attempting to ping the gateway address on the lan side of this adsl device? In that case either DHCP is not supplying a dynamic IP address or the static IP address, subnet mask, default gateway address configuration in her adapter is incorrect.

If she pinged an IP Address and it is not the prior issue I would favor that the modem side of the device are not set properly for her internet service provider. The ISP's support/help website may help in determining the correct values here.

If she pinged a domain name like www.google.com then it could be the same as either of the above or it could be a lack of DNS addresses in the router or her local adapter configuration whereever they are preferred in her environment?
