Remote works intermittently

Sometimes the remote works and other times it doesn't. I have changed the batteries on more than on occasion and it doesn't seem to have an effect.

Hi!

Unfortuntately, you and many others have this problem. I will point you in the direction of two "fixes" I have found.

Fix 1 is from Kenwood themselves, per the following quote:first try replacing the batteries if you haven't already. If that doesn't help, try resetting the receiver. Simply unplug the receiver, then press and hold the power button on the receiver while you plug it back in. Turn the unit on, and the display should say 87.50 to confirm the reset. If the remote still does not work, use a digital camera as an eye, face it towards the IR of the remote control. Depress any of the remotes buttons; you should see IR flash each time a button is pressed. If not then the problem is with the remote. If the remote works fine, then the problem is with the receiver. In order to determine the cause of the problem, I suggest you take the defective unit to a Kenwood authorized service center for evaluation. You can find information for authorized service centers in your area by visiting our website at www.kenwoodusa.com.

The second fix involves some very simple soldering, and has been endorsed by many as the solution:

I hope this helps. Good luck and please let me know if this solves your problem!

I have a functioning remote but the tv sometimes just stops reponding or responds intermittantly. In my case when the tv stops responding to the remote, I unplug the TV, leave it for 30 sec and plug back in. That seems to take care of it.

Read this procedure to possibly fix the remote:
http://remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=Display&contents=help_deadremote&uuid=A12963989782821
They also sell replacement remotes.
Zoom in on the picture of the original remote provided on the site (or look at your own) and get the actual remote model number.

or check eBay: search for "(model of the device or the remote) remote", check the 'include description' box. Usually cheaper than the vendors.

It sometimes work but sometimes doesn't and i'm sure it is not a bttery problem, may be the infrared.

Details in = details out. Not much to work with here.

I'm guessing it's a remote.

My remote is fine, but i don't know which button to push or sequence once I've changed batteries to for it to work the receiver. Each time I change the batteries it doesn't interact with the receiver, but...

Hi there,

It's likely that you've pressed one of the input mode buttons accidentally while changing the batteries. You've probably switched the remote for operation of a TV or DVD player or some other device.

To correct this problem, simply press the RECEIVER (TAPE/AMP) button once, then try the remote again. Pressing this button informs the remote that you wish to operate the receiver with it again. The RECEIVER button is about halfway down the left-hand side, above the TV button and below MACRO 1.

Please try this first. If the receiver still does not respond, switch the receiver off and back on again. It may have lost the communication with the remote. Resetting the receiver will usually correct this problem.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Regards,
BElectric.

All remotes controlling my Onkyo TX-SR304 stopped working

try putting the remote an inch away from the IR receiver on the unit and see if it works then, if so then you definitely know its broken. This can and does happen. From what you have posted it sounds like no remote is working on the receiver, the ir receiver can break. If you need further assistance let me know.
Thank you,
Lee

IR receiver on unit not working?

Sounds to me like the issue is the rx in the unit. It can be fixed with very little work if you can locate the part. Let me take a look and see if I can locate the part number for you. Although I have to say that Kenwwod can keep a tight lip on their parts lists.

Remote trouble

Did you clean the contacts between the rubber remote buttons and the wafer board below it? Rubbing alcohol works best. Sometimes when enough dirt gets in, it gets harder to work. If you HAVE cleaned that, I got nothing for you... Get a video camera and see if it is sending a signal at all, and determine that the problem is with the remote and not the IR receiver.

IR Reliability--Intermittent

The Kenwood VR-510 does indeed respond to IR remotes. I now use a Logitech Harmony H659 which is IR only.
Your issue is a problem with the VR-510, actualy the whole series had a problem with cold solder joints on an assembly behind the front panel. Fix that and fix the problem. It frustrated me for 5 yrs.
Go here for the fix:
This site has the fix well documented: http://resnet.uoregon.edu/~gurney_j/kenwoodrepair/.
All is working great now!
