Yes, but the crack occured due to the laptop being picked up by the lid right at the latch. The cracks

run diagonal to the left and right and look like ivy. When I removed the top and bezel lo and behold there was the circuit board with a large label saing "Do Not Press". With the XP start up page you can' tell unit you open Excel or Word with the white backround.

Exactly what I was looking for in an answer. I appreciate the detail in theory of operation as to why it cannot be repaired. Thank you!

No..... it is not possible to repair a cracked lcd....
Let me explain why....
The LCD panel is more than 1 layer... the sides and top/bottom have contact strips that the pixel grid connects to it is not just a piece of glass that magically shows an image.. also.. it is connected to a circuit board which wraps over the top and sits on the backside of the backlight...this Ribbon tape that connects the lcd panel to the circuit board is integrated into the Lcd panel itself... and has magnetic tape and contacts integrated into it as well... these cannot simply be ripped off or removed and switched...
Nor can you simply put a patch kit on the LCD to fix the crack.... Once it cracks, it will slowly grow in size and spread....
You can however change the front glare sheets and polarized sheets that overlay/underlay the lcd panel .. this is done to remove scratches and blemishes and such....

Screen cracked, lines on screen, can't see anything on screen

I had the same thing happen to my Sony. The LCD screen is cracked and it is leaking stuff into your screen. It will just get worse until you can't read anything. The repair was far more than buying a new computer.

We have a cracked lcd moniter. It is for an Acer Aspire 5315 15.4". How much would a repair like that cost?

Hi,

As per Acer repair policy, cracked screen is not covered under standard warranty. They will charge you $199 inorder to replace the screen. However, if know any local retailer or tech you can consult with them.

Thanks and regards,

LOOKS LIKE SCATCHES BUT THE SCREEN ISN'T SCRATCHED AND BLOOBS OF LIQUID ON THE INNER SCREEN. A LINE DOWN THE CENTER OF THE SCREEN TOO

Hello,

That really sounds like the LCD screen is cracked. The front will not feel cracked because of a clear plastic cover sheet but behind it is the LCD panel. The liquid you see is part of the screen leaking. The LCD actually means "liquid crystal display" and that is what you are seeing leak out between the cracks in the panel. You will need to have the panel replaced to clear the problem. You can get the panels from Ebay if you want to do the repair yourself. This type of repair is not covered under the Acer warranty. Lcd screen cracked

You can get a new screen from www.lcdpart.com
You can get dismantling info from them.

Basically you need to remove screws from the lid and bezel to reveal the LCD screen mounting screws. You also need to remove part of the plastic case next to the bottom of the screen, this will reveal the video cable conector etc.
If the top plastic case is in one piece, you need to remove this and possibly the keyboard to reveal the video cable connector.

Thinkpad T61 Display Problem

LCDs are not repairable, it is something you need to replace when defective. They also happen to be very very expensive to replace.

Is the screen cracked at all? cause sometimes when laptops get bumped, it is actually just the lcd cable inside the laptop that came a little loose and isn't making a full connection. If the screen isn't cracked or anything I would at least look into a possible loose cable first If you are not comfortable taking the laptop apart, I would bring it to a computer shop and have them take a look at it as some laptops can be complicated to open up. They shouldn't charge you more than about $40 to take a look at the lcd cable, they are normally pretty quick to get at. It is worth a shot as lcds typically range from $400 - $1000 and to have someone install it would be probably another $50-$100

hope this helps a little

LCD screen Cracked

You can get a replacement screen from Dell. Most computer repair shops can replace your LCD screen. If you're interested in replacing it yourself, you can try following these instructions although note that the instructions are for a different Dell laptop, so your experience may vary a bit.
