Hi,i have an xbox 360 and it was taking ages to boot up,a good minute or two,i replaced the xclamps with the xclamp kit and there was no change, it was still taking ages to boot up and the error code was still 0022,by the way the error code from the beginning was 0022. then i heated the cpu chip up with a hair dryer and left it to cool etc and now the error code has changed to 0020 and it is booting up straight away.so i was wondering if you could help me with this problem ? any solutions or ideas would be much appreciated.thanks
Basislly you keep your disc drive open for about an hour.
Then you play any game what so ever.
It will say erroe 0020 but leave it for half an hour.
Then turn it on put disc in but should work as usaul
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

You need to do the xclamp mod they have several videos on youtube. Youll need a universal torx screw driver found at home depot cheap. The xclamp mod consists of thermal compound paste 8 screws forgot whats size and several little washers to go around the screws. And you replace the xclamps with the screws and washers.
if you are still in the year warranty microsoft will repair free,if not its £81 for them to fix.Its an easy fix if you want to do yourself, the thermal paste in between the heatsinks and chip needs replacing, look on youtube and you will find loads of vids on how to open console, you will also need an xclamp kit,you can buy for £2 on ebay(make sure you buy one with nylon washers and themal paste),then take heatsinks off and clean chips and bottom of heatsinks and replace with new paste, then either use original xclamps(i never do,i use xclamp kit,it makes job a lot easier)or use bolts and washers that you get with kit,and within an hour you'll have a working xbox, you can also veiw vids on youtube how to change xclamps and clean off old paste. It might look a bit tricky but its as easy as changing a fuse in a plug, just on a bigger scale
could be av leads but more likely to be heatsinks on gpu/cpu.if you have a 1 year warranty send it in to microsoft for repair,if not,the extended 3 year warranty does not cover this repair and will cost £81.if you want to fix this yourself, buy a xclamp kit off ebay for £2 take apart your console(theres plenty of videos on youtube on how to do this) remove heatsinks(you should get a link with xclamp kit on how to do this) and clean old thermal paste off and apply new,put xclamp kit on do the baker mod to heat up gpu, tighten screws and 99% it will work,if not try again till it does,i've done tis plenty of times and never had 1 that i hav;nt got working again
xclamp fix,the thermal paste on your heatsinks needs replacing, just done one the same last week,it had no picture but had sound and no light on red ring but sound went off shortly after. You can learn how to do this on youtube, just search xclamp fix and plenty will show, and buy a xclamp kit off ebay, will cost about £2,if console is still under warranty for the first year its covered but if its past the first year the extended 3 year warranty dosnt cover this repair. They will charge £81 for them to fix it.And dont do towel trick it will get it working again but only for a few days and will do more damage to console
usually the xclamp mod works for more flex in the motherboard but if there is to much flex in it the system things its being bent or something. the xclamps help it to prevent to much flex. i would suggest putting the xclamps back on it theres no real need to take them off.
or may b due to power failure,
chck unplugging all plugs frm ur 360 n reconnecting it, if it works then its nt a rrod, if it doesnt ...
then itz rrod, u need to send your xbox 360 to fix it..
or need to get it xclamped:
here is the whole process to do a permanent fix *xlcamP* of rrod on ur xbox 360:
Your chips are overheating. This is a cause from ms not bolting the heatsink to the chips right. If you can send it back to ms and they can fix it for you. If they wont do it for what ever reason then purchase a xclamp kit (requires opening the 360 to install) and replace the nuts and bolts on the heat sink with the xclamp kit.
Usually if a motherboard has been scored or damaged.
( tracks or resistors/capacitors dislodged et,c )
The board is in the Bin. ( scrap ) unless the damage can be repaired. The RROD Or red-ring of death. Is usually due to the x-clamps fitted to the console initially, by the manufacturer.
Replacing the x-clamps, with a kit ( bolts/washers thermal Compound ) And 4 x heatpads recommended. Can cure the RROD. And in my own experience the 1 red light And E74 error.
Bottom line, if the boards scratched. it,s in the Bin.
Here is my recommendation If the xbox is still under warranty (I mean no one has broken the sticker) don't open it yet The reason for this is microsoft will warranty an xbox 360 against the three RROD The problem you are having is/maybe related to the same thing and what is happening is the graphics processor is no longer responding properly. Many others on this site have recommended a fix that I am hesistant to recommend, but does work, TEMPORARILY. I only recommend this fix if you are trying to preserve the console s warranty as this is a non invasive fix. All you need to do is wrap the console up ina thick blanket or several towels (do not use wet towels as water damage is not covered under warranty) and turn the console on. This will cause it to super heat and eventually overheat (this is not particularly good for the console, or permanent) Once it has overheated (about 45 minutes in the towels/blanket) unwrap it and let it cool. After about 1 hour of cooling try to restart the console and see if you have video For an out of warranty more permanent fix try the xclamp replacement mods outlined in other sections of this forum or search on google for xclamp replacement
