Hi,

Sorry you have received the typical lame answers from these guys. They are not supposed to answer questions they are not familiar with, but have not figured out they are useless and frustrating to the customer. Again, Sorry.

There are a few things that can cause this,

1. Battery Charge Cycle - If the battery you are using is the factory rechargeable, then do this. Run the battery pack all of the way to empty. When the unit powers off, turn it on and keep turning it on until the unit will not power up any more. Now , place on the charger and allow to charge overnight, undisturbed. Although these supposedly do not have memory, they do. If these are your own rechargeable batteries. same procedure, just outside of the Gamin unit.

2. Check the battery type selection in the setup menu. Maybe this somehow was changed and it is not setup for NiMH but Alkaline.

3. Using WAAS, backighting or frequint beep tones can significantly reduce your battery life. To find out maor about this or for instructions on how to change the settings, please see page 39 of your user manual or click on the link below.

http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/GPS60_OwnersManual.pdf

For you edification, there is an software update to your unit and I just wanted to make sure you w3ere aware of it. If you have not loaded this up to your GPS 60, click on the link below.

http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00322-00

Also, one footnote, and I am sure you already know this, but,
With Battery Save mode, the GPS updates its position less often. For example, in standard mode, it updates every second (on average). In Battery Save mode, it updates every 3 - 5 seconds, depending on how you are travelling.

Have you tried inserting new batteries? Garmin GPSmap 60CS uses two AA located at the back of the unit. You can use alkaline or NiMH batteries.

DO NOT USE LITHIUM BATTERIES, BECAUSE INITIAL VOLTAGE OF NEW BATTERIES MAY EXCEED 1.5v EACH, CAUSING THE UNIT TO TURN OFF. (This could be the source of your problem.)

To install the batteries:
1. Remove the battery cover by turning the D-Ring 114 turn counterclockwise and pulling the cover loose.
2. Insert the batteries, observing the proper polarity. A polarity diagram is molded into the battery compartment.
3. Reinstall the battery cover by aligning the back cover with the unit and turning the D-Ring 114 turn clockwise.

Remove the batteries from your GPSMAP 60CSx when you do not expect to use the unit for several months. Data is not lost when batteries are removed.

Hope that helps! Please don’t forget to "Accept" the solution if it helped you in any way, or leads you to a fix.

Thank you for using FixYa!

Cheers!

Alkaline batterys are going to last shorter in cold weather. replace them with lithium if you haven't already.

HI,

The problem is with the battery. It is not a software issue. You will have to replace your battery and your problem will be solved. One more thing are you sure your charger is working properly because if it is not then your battery will not receive proper charge. So i suggest you to connect it to the PC and allow it to charge for 5-6 hours. If the device hols power for hours then the problem was with one of your cigarette or the wall charger.

If your unit has good batteries and your unit shut down indicates that there was a "data abort"
Almost all these problems are caused by software bugs that can and will be fixed by a firmware version.

It has just been refurbished!!!!! Now when I try to turn it on the screen flickers once every second!!!

Get it straight back to Garmin. Personally I would look for a replacement as most Garmin software returns we get back in the shop end up being returned time and again until the customers get fed up and demand a new one..

The GPS cannot get satellite signal. It only displayed "acquiring satellite" considering that we are in open fields with clear sky.

    Shut off the Receiver...

Press and hold Page + Menu + Power...

Then select "Yes" to erase all user data...

Leave it on with a clear view of the sky without moving for about 30 minutes to acquire the satellites.

You can't turn the navigation back on with this method. You must once again highlight the waypoint you want to navigate to in your Fine>Waypoints screen and then press the "Go to" highlighted button on the screen.

Gpsmap 60c can not acquire satellites even when left outside for 15 minutes in a place where it usually has no problem. Problem happened overnight.

Are there any there any satellites listed on the satellite overview page?

What is the GPS SW Version listed by the unit?

    0.00?

    GPSmap 60Csx power up problems

I had the problem where I ended up disassembling the Garmin and adding a small piece of plastic to the on/off button. For some reason the push button on the top does not reach the one on the circuit board.
