The water dispenser has stopped working!!!

I purchased a Whirlpool side-by-side, model# ED5NHGXRQ00, just over a year ago from Sears. The water dispenser has been used maybe a few times each week and, wouldn't you know it, it has stopped working! It's also interesting that there is a placard just inside the fridge, from Whirlpool, that reads: " No one has fewer repairs 8 years in a row." Go figure!
Too bad Toyota doesn't manufacture refrigerators!

Could be a water solenoid problem (at the back portion where water from the sink enters ), or a micro switch in the dispenser area problem.

also, check if u have a water filter. could be clogged already.

Hello,

The first thing to do if you already haven't is replace the filter,it's in the grill/kickplate below the freezer door. If you have relpaced filter,need to pull refrig from wall and check that their is good water pressure from house plumbing,if it is good the water valve the sends water to icemaker&door dispenser when water is called for is going to be the problem.The part # for that valve is 4389177 it could be purchased at your local appliance parts store on oline at;
searspartsdirect.com
apdepot.com
repairclinic.com
assuredparts.com

The filter BUT NOT the water valve could be purchased locally at Sears,Lowe's or Home Depot

I hope this helps you to diagnose your icemaker/dispenser

I have a whirlpool side by side refridgerator about a year or more ago the water dispenser stopped working and now the ice cube dispenser also stopped working it is no longer making ice into the container....

Your water line into the refrigerator is probably plugged up. First, check at the cut-off valve where the house water connects to the refrigerator water line. Mineral deposits often form in these small valves and can block the water flow.

The other possibility is a blocked water line within the refrigerator. Plastic weedeater line works very well to clean out these lines.

Water Dispensor leak on Whirlpool Refridgerator

The solenoid valve needs replacing, located at the back of the refrigerator. If you have well water you will need to install a filter on the supply line.
