I have a Symbol Pocket PC ppt2846 with a cradle and a serial cable. I'm tryning to connect to a laptop so I can move some software to it and install it. I'm having trying connecting to it, and I'm not sure how to install software on it once I am connected. I'm not seeing much help in the form of product manuals or support from the symbol website or forums. Can someone direct me to some information that can help me?

If it is a Windows Mobile 5 device, reload the OS in full using SD card method. If the device is Windows CE5, you can enter IPL mode by doing a coldboot, and whilst inserting the battery back in the device, press the trigger and put it in the cradle until it enters IPL. Once there, you can either use SD card with the OS Hex files or you can use USB Download from Motorola to download the files sing a cradle from your PC. It will be recognised by the PC as this method does not use Active sync.
It depend of model of your cradle:
If cradle is without charge capability (suits CPT-8000), it get power from USB for internal logic and irda.
Cradles with charging capability ( two charging pin in cradle socket) need a powersupply to power both the charging of CTP-8001 and the internal logic/irda.
The driver need to be installed before connect the cradle to computers USB-port.
Hi, for Win 7, you cannot use activesync, you need to use the Mobile Device Centre, also from Microsoft, free download. This will load the drivers into Windows7 such that it will recognise the Symbol/Motorola MC3190 when it is docked to an attached cradle Note: for some applications you could previously set the "Guest Only" flag in Regedit for an ActiveSync and the handheld would not ask about the connection each time (assuming you do not want sync email) but in win7 it will ask each time.
Hello fouad bouabd. Assuming that you have posted this question because you cannot connect to your unit via the ethernet cradle. You're going to need to have Microsoft's ActiveSync software on your PC (Microsoft Download Page) and eConnect installed on the unit(s). Be sure to get the proper version for your opearting system. Either Windows Mobile or CE.NET. After that, you'll just need to make sure that the settings for ActiveSync are set to look for the units through the ethernet port and you should be all set. I hope this helped. Good luck!
"Check serial Input" is just part of the cycle on boot up. It checks for a key press on boot up so that it can access a hidden menu. A cradle, serial null modem cable and hyper-terminal is required to bring up this menu You can try and re-install the operating system. Download the latest image from Intermec (you will need to register) and then load the image onto an SD card. Remove the front cover just above the scan engine; 2 slot head screws and insert the SD card. Cold boot the device. Take off battery and hit the reset button a few times. Re-install battery. Image will begin to reload. Detailed instructions are available with the download. NOTE: The latest image downloads from Intermec not longer have the Telnet application pre-installed. If you require the telnet client then select a previous version, but then also not that there are usually 2 versions EX25 and non-EX25 scan engine type.
