Dryer won't start

Whirlpool Electric dryer, Model number LER6636PW0, purchased in 2005.
Was working perfectly the day before yesterday - clothes dried with no problems. Now it won't start.
I have reset the fuse (even though I don't think it was blown).
I have unplugged and replugged the dryer.
I cleaned the metal tube (vent?) leading out from the dryer this June.
I have not opened up the dryer top or the back and don't know how.

I am a newbie at this but am used to taking things apart and cleaning. So please let me know if I need to
a) clean something other than the lint trap - and how I do it
b) reset a switch someplace
Thank you so much for your patience and help

Check if the door is completely close, there is a door switch that if not closed will not start the unit.

My whirlpool top load sweats will drying, and it take a long time dry.

Your problem is in the dryer vent not the dryer. If it cant move the moisture it is pulling out of the clothes to a new location (basically the vent is clogged), it will just create humidity on the dryer itself and once the vent is cleared it should resolve your problem. Check both the vent coming out of the dryer and the vent where it comes out of your home either can be blocked somewhere in the line. You can buy a dryer vent cleaning brush kit from most home improvement stores if needed and I have had people use a lef blower on the vent line in the wall of your home since it has more pressure then the dryer fan to force out any lint build-up.

Refridgerator is not cold; barely cool.

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Dryer does not heat up.

Most likely the Thermal fuse has blown (remove back cover to get to it). Find out what it looks like and part number by typing model number in here:

My dryer dont dry

Possible causes depend on the dryer model and type. Electric dryers work diffeently from gas dryer.

Both electric and gas dryers usually have a thermal fuse located at the back of the appliance. Check if thermal fuse/switch is blown or tripped , and eventually replace it.

If the fuse is ok, and appliance is running but not drying, then next part to test will be the thermostat.

A dryer thermostat can be tested using a multimeter , set to read impedance at RX1. If the thermostat is good, it must have low Ohms at room temp, and return no continuity (infinite ohms) at temp. limit.

At this points things are different depending if dryer is gas or electrical.

On a gas dryer test valve , fan and ignitor.

On electric test the heating element and fan.

On both gas and electric, last part to be tested is the timer control board. If all other parts are fine, go for the timer board.

Whirlpool dryer tumbles but does not dry

the act that there is even a partial heating, bfore i say there may be a problem with the unit, I would ask that you check your venting for possible clogs/blockages. I fhte machine cant vent away the heat the it will not produce more. This is hte MOST common issue with all my dryer repairs. 2x-3x to dry clothes, start with the venting

Brand new Whirlpool Duet Sport gas dryer & burning plastic smell

I would consult the place of purchase. If they do not stand behind the product, then get the manufacturers support #. They will stand behind their product, especially if it is a possible fire hazard. THe smell you are smelling could be anything, but without being there and taking off the cover and doing a visual check. it's hard to dianose. It is possible that something that is plastic has fallen out of a pocket and gotten inside the unit while it was drying clothes and fallen onto the igniter housing.

Whirlpool Gas Dryer

check the air filter, even you clean the filter each time but sometimes underneath the filter, there are a lot of dust and dirt, maybe it is blocking the air go through.

If the dry won't get heat at all, maybe you should check automatic temperature switch and the senser.
