If the BIOS is corrupt or the wrong one, you will need either a new motherboard or the skill to remove the SMD BIOS chip and replace it with a programmed one.

To reset the BIOS password read the information from this link.

In case of your laptop I would suggest using Kill CMOS software from Hiren's Boot CD to wipe the BIOS.

Hi,

If this a Vista machine then you will need to download a boot disk and burn it to a CD.
I recommend Active@ Boot Disk as with this disk you will be able to change the password and gain access to the machine.
The file comes in an iso format which is a disk image so you will need a computer which has burning software installed, like Nero for example.
Once burned to a CD pop the disk in the laptop which has the password and restart it. From there you have to get the machine to boot from CD, you can do this by going into the BIOS or pressing F12 as laptop starts up. Let the boot CD load and then you can change the password.

Get Active@ Boot CD here >>>>>>>>>

Wrong bios

The # 443694-001 refers to the cd set. You need to know which DV9000 you have. On this link you will see all the DV9000 models.:
http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_pagetype=s-002&h_query=DV9000+443694-001&submit.x=6&submit.y=4

You will need to use a friend's computer for the following.

Once you find the correct firmware, You can make a bootable CD by using Nero or Roxio burning software, these are the most common on computers nowaday.Once you make the bootable CD, you will have to set your laptop to boot from the CDROM. Then boot the CD you made and run the firmware update.
I don't believe you would be able to get a USB flash drive to boot in this condition.
Good Luck
You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

BIOS help

this is not something you can do. specially you don't know the machine well enough to go inside and fix it.
and, you can't reverse BIOS revision. upgrade only.
so if you installed a more updated version of BIOS. you have no other choice but to buy a new PC or go to ebay see if anybody have DV9000 BIOS or motherboard for sell. take that BIOS and install it on yours.
if you want to try to fix it yourself. you are on your own, I will not be responsible for your action.

First of all like you say you need to get hold of a good PC so you can get on the Internet. perferrablely a PC with CD burner and the software to burn with.
get on the interent adn go the vendors' web site and download the BIOS, usuall (.EXE) file. double click on the file and open it in a temperoary location on the harddrive. then burn it on to the cd. if the CD buner is capable, you might be able to burn it directly on tot he CD.

be extra carefull, what BIOS you download. D NOT RUN ANY BIOS SOFTWARE ON ANY MACHINE EXCEPT THE INTENTED MACHINE.

Cd/Dvd burner stopped working on my laptop

Check the bios when the laptop first boots. There should be a message saying something like "Press F2 To Enter Setup"

See if your drive is detected and listed in the bios.

If not, power off, pop the drive out and reinsert it then try again.
You may have to turn the laptop over and remove one screw about 5" from the edge but near the drive. It will not be in any panel. If you can't see it then a quick read of your manual should show you how it comes out.

If it is detected in the bios, then boot Windows again and go into System then Device Properties (you can reach SYSTEM from control panel)
Check the list to make sure your drive is installed under Windows.

If that does not help, then post back and we can try a few other things.

Sounds like a bad cdrom... if the BIOS / CMOS doesn't pick it up during post, need to make sure it is seated good. Otherwise, just replace it.
