If the BIOS is corrupt or the wrong one, you will need either a new motherboard or the skill to remove the SMD BIOS chip and replace it with a programmed one.

To reset the BIOS password read the information from this link.

Hi,

If this a Vista machine then you will need to download a boot disk and burn it to a CD.
I recommend Active@ Boot Disk as with this disk you will be able to change the password and gain access to the machine.
The file comes in an iso format which is a disk image so you will need a computer which has burning software installed, like Nero for example.
Once burned to a CD pop the disk in the laptop which has the password and restart it. From there you have to get the machine to boot from CD, you can do this by going into the BIOS or pressing F12 as laptop starts up. Let the boot CD load and then you can change the password.

Get Active@ Boot CD here >>>>>>>>>

Wrong bios

The # 443694-001 refers to the cd set. You need to know which DV9000 you have. On this link you will see all the DV9000 models.:
http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_pagetype=s-002&h_query=DV9000+443694-001&submit.x=6&submit.y=4

You will need to use a friend's computer for the following.

Once you find the correct firmware, You can make a bootable CD by using Nero or Roxio burning software, these are the most common on computers nowaday.Once you make the bootable CD, you will have to set your laptop to boot from the CDROM. Then boot the CD you made and run the firmware update.
I don't believe you would be able to get a USB flash drive to boot in this condition.
Good Luck
You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Cd/Dvd burner stopped working on my laptop

Check the bios when the laptop first boots. There should be a message saying something like "Press F2 To Enter Setup"

See if your drive is detected and listed in the bios.

If not, power off, pop the drive out and reinsert it then try again.
You may have to turn the laptop over and remove one screw about 5" from the edge but near the drive. It will not be in any panel. If you can't see it then a quick read of your manual should show you how it comes out.

If it is detected in the bios, then boot Windows again and go into System then Device Properties (you can reach SYSTEM from control panel)
Check the list to make sure your drive is installed under Windows.

If that does not help, then post back and we can try a few other things.

Hi, Some proprietary recovery/installer CDs meant for a particular brand of laptop will not work on another. What you need perhaps is a Windows installer and use the serial number/key at the bottom sticker oy your laptop. You of course have to set in the CMOS/BIOS that the laptop boot from the CD first or F12 to select boot device. Further, the necessary driver files for a Toshiba laptop devices/components would not be available from a Dell or HP discs. If the CD drive will not read/boot the Windows installer CD, then the optical drive might have a problem. Your only alternative is to use/boot a USB attached device such as an external HD, CD or flash drive with the necessary boot files and installers. The first 2 would require the use of an external connector (IDE to USB adapter) while the last would have to be prepped using a 2nd PC. Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back what method you intend to use or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.
