Go to system properties. Click on the advance tab. Then click on Start up and recovery. Uncheck the box Automatically restart. You will get an error code. Refer the error code for further troubleshooting. For motherboard you will get from Bestbuy, Wallmart, Radioshack. bestbuy will be the best option. they also have technician who can help with the same

G'day

This sounds more like an overheating issue than a motherboard problem. This first thing you need to do is to enter your bios when the computer starts up. you can enter the bios by pressing the DEL, F1 or F2... it all depends on the manufacturer. Once you enter the bios there will be a hardware monitoring section which display voltage, cpu tempreture etc. check the cpu temp and see how much it hits.. if it reaches say 80-90c and the computer cuts off then it's a temprature problem. I've posted the links to the online manuals.. you will need them.
http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/5395/5395ul.shtml

If it is the above problem:

open the side panel on the pc and check if the processor fan is operational. Since this is a branded machine your pc will most probably have a green duct that pulls air over the heatsink.

it should look something like this (check the link) :
http://support.gateway.com/s/CASES/WME1T493-001/WME1T493-001iv.shtml

Now what you need to do is remove that green duct carefully (should be held by clips). make sure you do this with the cpu turned off.

ok now you should see a fan. if you don't that means the fan on the rear of the case has to do all the work. Now turn on the pc and check if both or if there in only one fan, if it is operational. if even one does not work replace it with a new one.. if both fans are operational then it might be that the heatsink is not locked in place. if so lock it in place.

if it's none of the above check if you have a pci-express vga card installed instead of the onboard. if so check it vga card has a operational fan. but it's very unlikely that the cpu will reboot because of a vga card.

if you do need to buy a motherboard check ebay or newegg.. they should have them in stock.

hope this helps

cheers

kbh

Your computer overheated, it needs a service/clean. With the vacuum cleaner. See my guide to get it working again, it is entitled My Computer is not turning on!!! Is it dead!!! No POST!!!

Install more fans, it needs cooler air to get into the chassis.

Take care!

My mouse freezes, then hear a beep, and the only way to unfreeze is to reboot... sometimes the computer works fine for a few hours, sometimes only for a few minutes after reboot

Is you mouse wireless if so replace the batteries. Also your resources memory or configurations may be not completed or up to requirement for using the Media Center. Often these issue are from lack of cleaning your system files or hard drive is packed up. Or a simple battery since no information has been given as to what happens to the computer when it works and when it does not. Does it completely shut down or is it just a video issue what happens when it stops working. It also seems intermittent as you described. A beep could mean a module could be going out a Power Supply Unit going bad, if you could describe the issues you are having specifically to the best of your knowledge it does assist those of us answering questions with a better solution rather than just a guess. Re-post question again and explain a bit further and I bet you will get a great answer. Thanks for using FixYa! John

I have a HP Media Center PC m1264n desktop.I can turn it on and 1 minute or maybe 5 to 10 minutes into it,it will just shut down, but the power led light on the front of the PC stays on.I reboot it and it...

Is it going to sleep or is it actually shutting down? Do you have to push the power button to turn it back on? Just a thought - if you have Windows 7, go to Start, Control Panel, then System and Security. Now check 'Change when the computer sleeps' under Power Options. Under Edit Plan Settings, what do you have for 'Put the computer to sleep'. Does '20 minutes' show up in the box? Open it and change it to 'Never' and then Save changes. If this didn't help you, maybe someone else can.
