Remove the dispenser cap by pulling it straight up. Under the dispenser cap, there may be another cap. If so, remove the center cap exposing the agitator bolt. Using a socket and ratchet remove the agitator bolt and the top half of the agitator can be lifted out as one piece. With the top portion of the agitator removed, grasp the lower agitator by the bottom flanges and pull straight up. The remaining section should lift off the center post. For a helpful illustration of what I'm talking about, go to searspartsdirect.com and type in your model number as "110.82881110". Go to the "Agitator, Basket and Tub" heading. There's an exploded view illustration of the agitator and all the components. If you require parts, all the part number and pricing information is available, as well. I hope this helps you.

PS When re-installing the agitator DO NOT over tighten the agitator bolt. This can cause damage to the agitator and create slow rotation problems. Just make sure you tighten the bolt snug, and then give it about a 1/4 turn.

Kenmore model 24054 washer that leaves dark streaks on clothes.

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump

removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

See the following for how to access the console, pull the cabinet, agitator(s) and tub if necessary.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137&osCsid=ef7d852e2285d2944a8b015a847b15db

You don't have to pull the pump, motor, transmission and drive tube to pull the agitator and tub.

HOWEVER:

A number of the diagnostics and repair procedures for these washers require you to remove the agitator(s).

In order to get the agitators out, you need to remove the "Spanner Nut" and "Drive Block".

Many instructions call for a special spanner wrench to remove the nut. However,

You don't need a special spanner wrench. (About $20 retail)

I've used a short 10" pipe wrench (About $9 also good for cracking walnuts) hooked around one of the tabs on the spanner

nut and tapped the handle with a hammer to loosen it.

Also, don't directly hit the drive block with a hammer (it's soft metal). Put a short piece of wood under the drive block and tap it up with a hammer.

With the agitators and tub out, it's relatively easy to clean out the gunk that builds up over time.

Kenmore 80 Series washer leaves brown grease marks

Remove the agitator and check the shaft seal underneath the plastic drive block at the top of the shaft. Move the shaft in different directions to check the condition of the top bearing. If none or very slight, replace the seal at the top of the shaft supporting post. Clean any grease that is outside of the seal when you are done. Be sure to not damage the seal surface on the shaft when removing/replacing the seal and pre-grease the new seal's inner lip before installing.

Washer won't agitate. It will spill on spin

Hi,

There are probably some "dogs" that connect the shaft with the dasher that have worn out and are no longer engaging.Remove the dasher to see them. Once the dasher is out, turn the cycle on, but close the water supply. Press the interlock so you can watch with the door open. They should swing out to engage the dasher.

It might take a bit of tool jockeying to undo the parts to get to them due to all the years of buildup, but once you gain access, it was easy to see that the springs were shot.

Thank You for contacting fixya.com

Kenmore washer agitator

Remove the agitator cap and the bolt in the middle that holds the agitator. Reach underneath the sides of the agitator and pull up. Try gently rocking it around as you pull, I'm sure it's going to be stuck pretty tight.
Good luck!

Removing Agitator from Kenmore Model 110 Top Loader

How to replace Whirlpool/Kenmore washer
dual action agitator ratchet ‘dogs’, kit # 285770
Tools needed: Screwdriver, 3/8" drive ratchet wrench, 7/16" socket (older models), 3/8" drive to 1/2" adapter (newer models), long 3/8" drive extension, small amt liquid detergent
1) Pry the agitator cap off by inserting a screwdriver into the cap’s notch
2) Pull the inner cap (if present) off – most Whirlpool machines use this inner cap, with a handle, to gain access to the center bolt
3) Remove the bolt in the center of the agitator
(Earlier models used a 7/16" hex-head steel bolt)
(Recent models use a 1/2" square drive plastic nut – use a 3/8" X 1/2" ratchet adapter)

4) On older models, grasp the bottom portion of the agitator and pull the entire ***’y off.
(Recent models allow just the top portion’s removal to access these ‘dogs’)
5) Older models – place the agitator on the floor, and, standing carefully on the bottom portion, pull the top half off. Turn it over, and the dogs will be accessible for replacement.
6) Newer model dogs can be replaced once the ratchet ***’y is removed. There are several versions currently in use, but most can be replaced without removing the bottom agitator half. All‘4-dog’versions use the 285770 kit, regardless of the cam ***’y style. (Older agitators, rarely seen now, used a pair of 2 larger dogs, which are a different part number)
7) On older versions, be careful to align the two tabs when inserting the upper ***’y back onto the agitator bottom half. When these are aligned, they will friction-fit the two halves together, making it easier to reinstall the ***’y. Handle it only by the bottom half to prevent pulling the top half off when reinstalling.
8) Lightly lubricate the agitator cap’s rubber gasket using a bit of dishwasher detergent, and push it back into place. (On the Whirlpools with an inner cap, lube that cap’s o-ring too – makes it easier to snap into place)
9) Reach around and pat yourself on the back! You just saved at least $75.00!
