Question about Dell 924 All-in-One InkJet Printer

Dell A924 totally dead after installing new ink cartridges

Hi
I have just installed a black and a colour ink cartridge on my 2 year old A924 all-in-one printer, but it is not responding at all. Firstly only the power and a warning light to the side of it flashed and then nothing. On inspecting the internals to the left side with a torch it would appear to have been the victim of a leak of ink. There is a continually flashing red light at the print-head area but nothing else. I have checked that the power and USB leads are okay so can only guess that the ink leak has shorted some component(s).
Do you know if there is any way of saving this unit or is it doomed to the bin?

You are exactly right about your guess as the main board is short in your printer due to ink leak.
its compulsury to replace that main board.but it will cost you quite same as compared to new printer.so going for a new printer is much better option.and its advisable.

but before buying the new printer you can try to open the printer and remove the new board fron the printer and cleaning the whole board with the tooth brush and water slowly and letting it dry for 2-3 hours.and check all the cables before connecting it again that they r not broken or cracked in between.
because if the problem is of broken cable it will cost you very less to replace it and repair it.

Old ing goes hard and blocks tiny pores
Remove the new ink cartridges and clean old ink away with methylated spirits.
Leave rag in around heads for awhile to soften up ink.
Clean gold contacts also with methylated spirits

How do I install the printer cartrige? I do not have the booklet...


  1. Turn on your printer.

  2. Open the front cover.

The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.

  1. Press the tabs on the cartridge lids, then lift the lids.

  1. Remove the old ink cartridges.

  1. Store the cartridges in an air-tight container or dispose of them properly.

  2. If you are installing new ink cartridges, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the back and bottom of each ink cartridge.


NOTE: You can use your printer with one cartridge (color or black) at a time. To extend the life of your color cartridge and improve printing speed, install both a color cartridge and a black cartridge at the same time.
  1. Insert the new ink cartridges. Make sure the color ink cartridge is secure in the left ink cartridge carrier and the black ink cartridge is secure in the right ink cartridge carrier.

  1. Snap each lid closed.

  1. Close the front cover. The front cover must be closed to start a print job.

  1. Open the Dell Printer Solution Center by clicking Start® Programs or All Programs® Dell Printers® Dell Photo Printer 720® Dell Printer Solution Center.

  2. Click the Maintenance tab.

  3. Click Install a new print cartridge.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Select the type of cartridge you installed.

NOTE: Specify whether the cartridge is a new cartridge or an old cartridge (one that has been used before). If an old cartridge is incorrectly identified as New Cartridge in the Dell Printer Solution Center, ink levels may be incorrect.
  1. Click Next.

Black ink won't print with new cartridge installed, and while cleaning the print head the colour cartridges show as not installed or recognized.


If less than 1 year old contact Brother. Printhead and/or ink refill assy are faulty and should be repaired freeunder warranty ;)

  1. Buy only genuine Dell replacement cartridges. Dell states their printer cartridges cannot be refilled with ink and that only their cartridges work in the printer.
  2. Bring the cartridge carrier of the printer to the center so you can access the ink cartridges. Open the cover of the printer and the carrier slides to the center. Make sure the printer is turned on.
  3. Remove the old black ink cartridge to use the color cartridge. If you allow the old black cartridge to remain in the printer, you will get error messages that the ink is low. The printer may also keep reverting back to the black ink as the default color when printing.
  4. Open the package of the new color cartridge carefully. Remove any blue packing tape that's on the ink cartridge. Take care not to touch the gold area or you could damage the cartridge. Insert the new color cartridge into the correct slot in the printer, the right side of the cartridge carrier. The ink cartridges aren't interchangeable; they need to be placed in the correct slot.
  5. Close the cover on your printer after installing the color cartridge. Run a print test to make sure the color cartridge is installed correctly. Use the Dell Ink Management System to monitor your printer and all-in-one functions. Thanks Thiru

Replacing Ink Cartridges 1. Turn on your printer. 2. Lift the printer unit. 3. The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy. 4. Press down on the ink cartridge lever to raise each ink cartridge lid. 5. Remove the old ink cartridges. 6. Store the cartridges in an air-tight container, such as the storage unit you received with your photo cartridge, or dispose of them. 7. If you are installing new ink cartridges, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the back and bottom of each ink cartridge. 8. Insert the new ink cartridges. Make sure the black or photo ink cartridge is secure in the left ink cartridge carrier and the color ink cartridge is secure in the right ink cartridge carrier. 9. Snap each lid closed. 10. Close the printer unit. 11. An alignment page automatically prints.

Brother DCP-115C Printer: "No Ink" message continues even after old ink cartridge (still some ink!) is replaced with a new one.


Reset the printer to factory settings
Turn off the printer. and turn it on again.

If still not working

Take out the cartridges, turn off the printer
Turn on the printer and put the cartridge again.

924 says that black ink cartridge not installed


Hmmm....that sounds to be an issue with the ink cartridges...

You might be using ink cartridges purchased other than Dell or Staples...since these are the two who sell Dell Ink.

If thats not true, then take out both the cartridges in the printer.

Lets isolate the issue

1. Try only Black cartridge on Color slot(right). If you get Install both ink cartridges error, then its an issue with the Black ink cartridges and if you get message that install Black ink cartridge then its an issue with the prrinter.

2. Now install only color cartridge on Black cartridges slot(left), If you get color cartridge missing then its an issue with the Black cartridges which you are using and if you get install both ink cartridges then its an issue with the black slot on printer.

3. If issue found to be with Black ink cartridge then wipe the Nozzles(bottom) of the ink cartridge with lint free cotton cloth from back to front 5-6 times.

4. Also try replacing the ink cartridges purchased only from Dell or from Staples. Purchased from somewhere else or refilled might not work.

5. If issue found to be with printer, then i would suggest you to purchase new printer then.

Hope this fix the issue
