Question about Sony CDP-CE375 5-Disc CD Changer

1 Answer

Setting up new CD laser

I have numerous single, twin and multidisc cd players that are traded in (I install PA systems) I can swap either the optical unit or the whole sleds quite easily, and all the units will work, but if I fit a new optical unit or a complete sled (ie KSM-213CCM) they don't work. I can't see anything obvious with the new parts that would prevent this, also assuming voltage to laser pot is pre-set at factory. Tried increasing one pot by a tiny turn but still not working. I have a Sony CDP-CE375 to fix and two Numark twin DJ cd players, all using KSS213C. On box with laser only it says 'Remove Antistatic lock before use, but when compared with original unit I can't seem to find a lock!!!
Sometimes cleaning lens works, but only for short time depending on the customers environment.

Thanks so much for the advise, I knew it must be something that simple!! I used braid. Why do they that, is that a way to keep static from the lens pcb?
Once again thanks for superb advise, my customers will benefit greatly from this!

Any new laser will not require any adjustment, most modern CD players do a self calibration on power up. There is a small dot of solder that must be removed somewhere on the circuit board. You'll see it's shaped like two half circles with a small gap between them which is bridged by solder. Remove this and you should be good to go! You should just be able to touch a soldering iron to it and drag it off. Or you can use a "solder ******" or de-soldering braid.

I think it prevents static from destroying the IC that's mounted to the board, not too sure.

Bose multi CD changer will not play anymore

In most cases when the CD does not play it ispossible that the optical head is a suspect. Sometimes it might pick up ordinaryaudio CD but will not play other formats. This indicates that the optical headis weak and so there is no detection or scanning of the CD. If the optical is workingthe tracks will be read immediately but with no scanning the laser head can bedefective. The main motor will not work in some cases asunless the tracks are read the drive motor will not work with signal from theprocessor. Also in some cases the central motor base can shift and so thedistance to the disc can be more resulting in low detection. You can pull upthe spindle to come closer.
Sometimes certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it willnot be read and so will reject. Hence it is ideal to manually clean the laserhead eye using a cleaning swap /cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lenseye.
If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so theboard seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but thepossibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault.
If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of amalfunction of the main processor board

Hello trying to upgrade my HCT HBR-1000BP Blu-ray Player firmware and can not figure out how. No support on HCT website. Would be thankful for any help

Where are you having a problem? I found directions on: http://hcthk.com/mall/s02.php . There were two links, one with directions and one with an arrow for downloading the needed file.

The firmware is in a zip file. First extract the files from the compressed archived. (For a Windows OS, right click on the folder and select Extract All.) If needed, open the new uncompressed folder and put a blank CD-R or CD-RW in your optical burner drive. Burn the two files from the extracted folder to the CD (drag and drop will work for any version of Windows (XP-7).) Do not include the folder, just the files. Then finalize the disc (close the session). If you are asked to format the disc, choose a mastered burn (single-session). In Windows Explorer, you can do this by right-clicking on the optical drive in Computer (My Computer) or from the menu for the drive when you double-click on it. (Alternatively, if you have your system set to finalize on eject, then choose Eject. This setting is in the drive's Properties (the Recording tab).)

Eject the disc from your computer and turn on the HBR-1000BP. Place the CD that you burned in the player. When the disc is recognized, press Play. If that doesn't work, try entering the System Menu and choosing System Update with your remote. Do not power down the unit during the update; a power failure during the update might leave you with an unusable player.

If this doesn't work, check if the Blu-ray Player reads any CDs. If it doesn't, try cleaning the laser lens with a CD/DVD lens cleaner. Then try again. The Blu-ray uses a different laser. If no disc works and the lens cleaner doesn't help, the CD/DVD laser has a tracking (alignment) issue or another problem. You'll need to get the optical drive in the HBR-1000BP replaced or fixed.

If it does read a different CD, then check if your optical disc burned and was finalized correctly. Can another optical drive read it? Try burning the files to CD on another optical drive. (If you are using an external optical drive burner, make sure that the computer is not running on battery power. Plug the external drive into two USB ports if it isn't self-powered.)

I hope this helps.

Now since you have changed with a new one ( please make sure that the solder jumper was removed which is for static damage security in the new unit)

The cd player says error and will not play any cd's

A lot of times, cd players will show error, so like all of us, is start putting in all kind of other cd's even music we don't care about, like buck owen's and the bosby twins. Been there done that. Sounds like you have done everything at your end. So, here is what you do and most likely it will solve the problem. At almost any radio shack, best buy store, or stereo shops, they all have little Cd cleaning kits, it goes in like a regular Cd but cleans it, pretty easy and simple to use. Some times its just like putting a couple drops on a blank Cd with some rubbing alcohol and letting it cycle through for a few minutes. I hope it helps, please let me know, so you can get back to rock'n and drive'n

Cds dont load and tracks will skip during song play

It is clear symptoms of bad optical laser or dirty optical lens.
Please put lens cleaning CD in player, play that CD to clean dust on optical lens surface. If that helps, fine or replace optical laser block in player.
I can provide you optical lens part number, please confirm is it Sony CDP-CX153 cd player or any other model.
Thanks.

Cd player

"PEO" USUALLY means Player Error Optical, which means in most cases the
laser has malfunctioned. When this happens of course,no CD or disc will
play. You can try and clean it with a disk cleaner and if that doesn't work you are probably gonna hafta buy a new cd player. I have a link to a best buy private auction that lets you bid on things like cd players and what not. I bought one, a Pioneer DEH 2900 for 16 bucks!, Lemme know and I'll have it sent to you.
