Tomb Raider, 3dfx, and the EIZO monitor?

By Luisa_K - usenet poster

Hi, all.

I'm really glad to see that Tomb Raider has hit the streets.
I have two questions:

1. Does TR (TR2? TR3?) benefit from 3dfx? (Specifically, the Power3D card?)

2. I'm thinking of getting a NANAO EIZO FLEXSCAN E55D 17" monitor. (I
actually have no idea if it's being sold anywhere else in the world
besides Japan.) I'd like to know if there could be any problem with it and
the Power3D card. It would be disappointing to pay a large price for a
very good display, and still be playing 3dfx games on software...

Thanks,
Kaz

Thanks, all, for the information!

Just to be sure, I'll check with Eizo in Japan, but there are no
officially sold 3dfx Mac cards in Japan, so they might not know...

I hope this newsgroup gets hot with TR talk!

Also the ATI Rage Pro

Hmm... can't say about 3dfx card, but I have an ATI Rage pro card. Works well
with my made in Korea 17" monitor, and yes, it should work with the Eizo as
well, since I stay in Malaysia and that monitor is similar to what i have, AND
the ATI card includes a VGA adapter.

Also something else to consider: the ATI chip is a standard on new G3 macs and
the iMac, and more and more games developers are starting to take advantage of this.

Of course, you can't get away from the fact that 3dfx (for now) still beats
the Rage Pro. :)

To the best of my knoledge, the NANAO EIZO FLEXSCAN E55D is sold only in
Japan. However, there is a chance that the E55D (Japan) = the TX-C7 (USA) =
the T57 (the rest of the world). You may wish to look at Eizo's different
WEB pages in different parts of the world. Just go to this address:

to find all their international WEB pages.

It's rare for a monitor to have problems with a video board, but just to
be 100% sure, contact Eizo Nanao in Japan:

Address: 655 Fukudome, Matto, Ishikawa, 924, Japan
Telephone: (+81) 76 277 3310 / Fax: (+81) 76 277 3450

Yes, it works on any 3Dfx card, including the Power3D. It also works with
cards that support RAVE.

If it is a multiscan monitor (and what isn't, these days?) then there are
no problems.
