Hitachi-LG DVD Rewriter for DELL Dimension 2400

JUst brought this as replacement for CDRW. The drive is Model GSA-H53N. Dell instructions tell me to ensure the jumper is set for 'cable select' by instructions with the drive. No instructioins have come and Dell Tech Support are hoipeless. Anyone know what how the jumper should be set?

    Don't understand. I just want to install it according to the DELL instructions as a replacement for the existiing drive. All I then need to know is how should I set the jumper as required. The drive is made by Hitachi-LG

Hello jpptalbot.
You can install the CDRW on a free IDE channel (which is not being used by any devices) and there is no need of using a jumper in this case.

Can I put internal LG GH22 rewriter inside external GSA-E60N

First, open the external casing.
You'll find an "internal" CD/DVD drive, connected to an adapter, and the adapter connects to the USB cable.

Now, look at the adapter -- it could be a "parallel-ATA" interface, or it could be a "SATA" interface. The new CD/DVD drive will have to have the same connectors (data and power) as the adapter.

You might have to exchange the SATA device for a Parallel-ATA device.

If you have a parallel-ATA CD/DVD drive, look at the back of it.
There is a tiny jumper, and a few labelled settings:

* MA(ster)
* SL(ave)
* C(able)S(elect)

Move the jumper to the 'MA' setting, so that the USB-adapter will recognize the CD/DVD drive.

Connect the drive to the adapter.
Close the case.
You're good to go!

Dell Dimension 2400 won't recognize DVD-ROM drive as Boot Device.

Enter the Bios and under System Components find the Boot priority in the Bios and move the drive to the top of the list, also you can press F12 at Start up to select it as well. :)

Where do I get a dvd drive for the Dell dimension 2300

The dell dimension takes a standard DVD drive, CDRW or DVD writer. Simply go to your local superstore and buy one thats on sale. Buy one that goes internal not external. For example a place like Best Buy has several.

Hard drive

Yes, it is possible to do so. Adding a DVD is pretty much the same for most PCs. I suggest getting an 80-wire cable. The simplest solution is to replace the existing CD drive and cable with a new 80-wire cable and a DVD drive. You'll have to get drivers for it as well as software to use it (if the drive doesn't come with any). If you want to add it and use the existing CD, then you'll need to open the case, add the 80-wire cable (in addition to the existing cable) into the second IDE cable connector on the motherboard. Check these instructions from Dell. (Note they suggest connecting it to the existing cable, but that may or may not be possible.) Go to:
