Hi Platinum,

You may need to remove the other operating to complete the correct booting process. All you need to do boot your system to the working windows. You may either select one of the operating system. When you are already in your desktop screen. Please follow the instructions below.

for XP
1. Click Start button, go to run then type msconfig in the box. A pop up window will show up on the screen.
2. Look for Boot.ini
3. Click on "set as default" button.
4. Click on apply then close and restart your system.

Regards,

Jeff

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Dual Boot

You may have overwritten your boot.ini file.

  • Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
  • On the Advanced tab, under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.
  • Under System startup, in the Default operating system list, click the operating system that you want to start when you turn on or restart your computer.
  • Select the Display list of operating systems for check box, and then type the number of seconds for which you want the list displayed before the default operating system starts automatically.

To manually edit the boot options file, click Edit. Microsoft strongly recommends that you do not modify the boot options file (Boot.ini), because doing so may render your computer unusable.

If both OS's are the same, you should be able to copy and paste the line for XP and simply change the drive letter to the location of the second OS.

Greetings Noellantana,
  1. Close all software applications that are open on your computer (including anti-virus software).
  2. Place the EasyShare software CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  3. Load the software:
    Windows OS
if the install window does not appear, choose Run from the Start menu and type d:\setup.exe where d is the drive letter that contains the CD.
    Mac OS X
double-click the CD icon on the desktop, then click the Install icon.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
  5. If prompted, restart the computer. If you turned off anti-virus software, turn it back on. See the anti-virus software manual for details.

Look at Gateway website. Manuals are fairly useless, these days... What are you seeking?

Unable to install 500gb external hard drive. Not being recognised in My Computer as an extra drive.

Im going to suggest that you connect the drive to a 2nd PC, but you already did that. And it showed that the problem is with the computer. Connect the drive and then right-click on the drive in the Device Manager, do Uninstall. Reboot the computer. Maybe it will come back and work. If not, connect it again, go find the USB Root Hub that it's connected to (double-click on it one by one, check the Power tab and it will tell you what device is connected), right-click, Uninstall, reboot. If no, only thing I know to do is to do an OS repair. Make sure you disconnect ALL external storage devices before you do an OS repair.
