Question about MSI K9MM-V Motherboard

Windows won't load or instal

I have an MSI K9MM-V Class motherboard. Recently, the pc would freeze on startup. I'm trying to reinstal windows but it keeps freezing before setup even starts. I've tried other hard drives and get the same problem. The motherboard is only a few months old, but I've always had some sort of intermittent freezing problem. The latest trouble started after I slaved a SATA Drive, and it crashed totally..
(IDE Hard Drives are what I'm trying to instal windows on)

AMD Sempron 2ghtz Processor
1gb Kingston DDR2 Ram
80gb Samsung HDD (IDE)
No Graphics or sound cards

Thanks for your comments. Master and slave allocations were checked and double-checked and all were fine. PC has now started with windows using same everything with the exception of the mouse. (USB). For some reason the mouse was the problem. I don't understand how or why unless there's a south bridge problem? (my knowledge of this is limited).. but another mouse, plugged into same USB port seems to have solved the problem. btw, the problem mouse works fine in another pc.. it's one of those 'I just dont get it' problems.

I spoke to a tech friend who also suggested upgrading the Bios. It seems to be the best way to go at this point.. I have 3 pc's with the same motherboard, only one seems to be continually causing a problem. I suspect that if the upgrade doesn't fix it, the motherboard is suspect. Thanks for your help.

I think this problem is related to motherboard. Try upgading the bios. If that does'nt solve the problem then replace the motherboard

Freezing of computers occur mostly due to shortage of RAM. But in ur case, 1GB is quite enough for XP. Since ur computer is freezing b4 even starting up, thus it could be a problem of disk drives.check if more than 1 drive have been alloted MASTER (Primary) or otherwise same priority. If u have more than 1 HDD, then the one in which the Opering System is installed should be given the Master Primary and the other as Cable select/slave. Likewise do it for the CD/DVD ROM or RAM (the CD/DVD RAM should be alloted the master and ROM as the slave). It can be done by the JUMPERs on the back of the Drives. See the exact setup on the drive surface.

Windows 7 audio driver

MSI have create no driver for K9MM-V under Windows 7, but usually Windows 7 & Vista automatically recognize old audio chipset, strange that your installation has not installed the driver. Have you tried with Windows XP driver? sometimes it did the trick.

SERACHING DRIVERS FOR MSI K9MM-V FOR WINDOWS 7. WHAT VGA CHIPSET IS IT

The motherboard you mentioned has VIA K8M800 and VT8237R Plus chipset. Unfortunately there are no qualified drivers for windows 7 for this motherboard. I suggest you to try the generic windows 7 drivers. In case of a problem download the windows XP drivers from this official link and if the problem is still existing try before the installation to right click on the file you are about to install and check at the compatibility tab the compatibility with windows XP sp3 check-box.

In case of a problem or clarification or further details needed, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

This is not too uncommon scorcher63.
From what you stated, when windows does start it only goes so far & than re-starts it's self, like loading in a loop. Than at times it loads the start up options.
For reasons unknown, your windows (startup files) are corrupted. Easyest way to fix this is. Put you windows CD in the cdrom, shut down the system. Start the PC & press the F8 key every 2 seconds. A boot menue will load. Use the up & down arror keys & choose the cdrom drive. You will see (to boot from cd press any key), press the space bar. The cdrom will startup. Windows will start to load. You want to repair windows. This option will re-install windows but will leave most of your personal data alone. Like My Documents your username. Some programs "may" need to be re-installed. After installation is complete remove the windows cd & shut off the PC. Start the Pc, windows should load. Run Windows Update. If you have a antivirus program please do a full system scan. Run windows Defrag program.
scorcher63, if you have more question just post them here.
