This happens on a regular basis. I use only the genuine ink cartridge but just the same, horizontal banding occurs, especially if it (printer) is not used for sometime. Can you please help me on this one. What cleaning can I do?

Did you remove the ink cartridge when you did the head cleaning and nozzle check, if so, did you touch the copper circuit chip on the cartridge? . . The chip is normally what tells the printer how much ink is remaining in the cartridge and if it cannot read this, it may not recognise that the cartridge is genuine and still has ink remaining inside. . . .You can try cleaning the chip with a soft dry cloth otherwise you may have to install a replacement cartridge. . . Nozzle cleaning uses a lot of ink, that's probably why the other ink cartridges are registering low on ink. Are you using refilled cartridges or brand new? Also, have you had the cartridges for awhile? I've found that the nozzles can become clogged either from not using the printer for awhile or because it's a recycled cartridge that didn't have the nozzles cleaned before it was refilled. When that happens, unfortunately, sometimes it takes a lot of cleaning cycles before the printing comes back. Let me know more about the cartridges you have.
Yes it is so happen, that's the disadvantages of not using genuine ink.... If I were you use genuine cartridges.. and if you were to think to lessen you expense tried to refill it with the people who knows refilling... maybe you just destroy your cartridge... because when you refill it full the tendency is to ruin the cartridge.
Nozzle check must perfect for perfect output. There are tranversal lines at vertical straight lines that represent same point of head micro piezo. If tranversal lines no clog at all, but vertical straight lines not perfectly straight, the result not good (like horizontal white banding). Check it? Head aligment is for vertical banding. If your result is horizontal banding, you don't need to realign head. It's caused by some residual at the output of head sprayer. So, the spray of ink not straight to paper. Try to print with photo/best photo.
Hi e-margaret. There's a bit of confusion here. Horizontal banding is due to LACK of ink flow to the paper. "Splodging" is due to too much. The former can be due to blocked/faulty print head nozzles or a faulty/empty-ish cartridge, or some less common problem like the waste ink pipe blocked. The latter is usually due to a leaking cartridge.
The first job is to mop up ink slopping around under the print head. Cut some strips of kitchen towel and fold them into 3 layers so you have a strip about 2 cm wide. Place them on the print head track. Turn on the printer, and as soon as the print head moves, pull out the power cord from the back of the printer. Now you should be able to move the print head carefully by hand too and fro over the towels. Repeat this with clean towel strips until most of the surplus ink is cleaned up. Remove the towel strips, replug in the power chord and switch the printer back on. Do a head clean cycle and nozzle check 3 or 4 times. If the nozzle check output looks OK, try a test print of a text document

This is a common problem I have found with Epson printers. If you don’t use the printer on a regular basis the printer heads can clog. I have found no way to clean the heads once this occurs. I will now only purchase HP printers because the printer heads are part of the ink cartridges. With every cartridge change you get new heads, end of that problem!
