1. a wireless adapter (working).. you adapter needs to have drivers that go with your operating system.. if you have problems on this area you need to go to the adapter manufacturer website and dowload drivers for your device according to your operating system (ex. if you have a xyz model made by company z and you are using windows vista... you need to go to company z, look in support for you to download driver and look for your device model xyz and look for a vista driver... you may need to install the driver first before plugging your device in (if your wireless adapter device uses a usb)
2. a wireless access point (a router)
3. if your router is configured with defaults (not recommended for security reasons) you're pretty much set, but if your router is configured (recommended) you need to know:
a. the SSID (name of your router/network),
b. wireless key or passphrase and
c. method of authentication set on your access point (wep, wpa, wpa2)
