Question about Pioneer Car Speakers & Subwoofers

1 Answer

I have a 1994 dodge ram 1500 with the infinity premium sound in it, the previous head unit i had a was a clarion and it work excellent. I installed the avh-p5700dvd and now i only get sound out of the front tweeters and some very faint sound out of the right rear. After checking my wiring many time i thought maybe i had a bad install plug so i removed the plugs from my clarion deck and installed to find i had the same problem. Since then i tried to reinstall my old deck and now its got the same problem. I put the factory cassette deck in and everything works fine. What can i do to resolve the problem? any help would be great. thanks

With the Infinity system you need to power up the factory amplifiers. This is done with the blue with a white stripe wire from the deck to the amp turn on lead from the factory harness. Not sure the color of the wire but that's most certainly your problem. If you have a factory to aftermarket wiring adapter it'll be the blue wire.

A lot of companies are using 2 ohm speakers for stock speakers. This means they are more efficient (sounds strange that a stock speaker is efficient). The stock amp may not be able to put enough power out for these to sound good. You may end up needing a new system.

it sounds like you need to turn on our amplifier. this is simple and easy to do just by connecting the blue/white wire off of the back of the radio to the blue wire on the harness that connects to the factory harness.

There should not be a constant voltage present on the output RCA's. They will only put out voltage when there is something playing and it will be a very small and constantly varying amount. If you plug it in and it is still not working you may need to adjust the menu settings on the head unit or the input sensitivity of the amplifier. For example if you plug the RCA's into the Rear outputs of the head unit and the Fader setting is all the way forward, you will not get any sound. Same goes for the amp settings, if you turn it on and the input sensitivity is set way down then you won't get any sound then either. Cheers, Dan

I have a cd stuck in my factory cd player, i have an 05 dodge ram 1500, the cd will play but wen i push the eject button the cd switches to the radio and does not eject out

the cd mechanism is probably bad. the only way to repair it is to replace the cd mechanism. it probably has a clarion cd mechanism.

What kind of wire do I need to install Infinity reference series 605cs with a JL Audio 10" sub and a Alpine Flex 2 amp? Can I use my factory head unit?

You can use the factory speaker wiring for the Infinity speakers you should purchase a amp kit which will give you everything to install the amp. See site below

Well that all depends on the current audio system you have now is it just a basic or a premium factory system with a factory amp. Honestly you would get a better and cleaner sound if you change the factory head unit to a after market one which has preamp feeds and the higher the preout volt the better. Just make sure it is compatible with the amp volts input (Example 4v to 250mv) If you use the factory headunit you would have to by a high to preout adapter it connects to the exsiting radios speaker leads, but like I said before change the head unit you won't be sorry. Do not forget if you change the radio you need a radio install kit and the wiring harrness which converts the two radio plugs so you don't cut them so down the road you can remove the after market radio and just replug the factory right back in.

Stock speakers with HK Business head unit. speakers sound lousy, any after market speakers you could recommend to replace stock?

Hello sharkdc0529,

I'm not familar with the HK Business head unit, and could not find such in an online search. I thought it might be "Harman-Kardon" but struck out again. Anyway, most stock speakers will sound lousy with an aftermarket head unit. Take a look at the typical factory speaker (top photo) and an Infinity aftermarket speaker (bottom photo) on this page. There's a world of difference in the materials and construction.

In addition to Infinity, I recommend Alpine, Kicker, and Rockford-Fosgate. You'll also find that Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony make some excellent sounding speakers at very reasonable prices.

You'll need to know the size of the stock speakers and replace them with the same size. Also, be aware that most aftermarket speakers have larger baskets and magnets and will therefore have more "depth". Make sure you have ones that fit or that you have an appropriate adapter.

Hope this helps.

I have just purchase a clarion DB165 and i want to do the installation to a ford explorer 1994.

And.....what? You need a wire harness for the premium sound inteface. No kit needed as the opening for the factory radio is a DIN size. You'll know if it's premium sound by the factory plugs. One is wide and gray, the other is a small square metal one, the Non-Premium plugs are the same gray one and a similat black one (speakers) If the plus have been cut off, I can give you the Ford color codes.

I need to install a max385vd in a 2002 pord f-350, do i need an install kit?

Regardless of whether this is an amp or a head unit, an install kit is either very helpful or necessary. If it's an amp, you'll need it for sure - you can't power an amp with 18 gauge factory power wiring like a head unit can use. You need to get at least 10 gauge power and ground wire, 18 gauge remote turn-on wire, and RCA patch cables to conduct the sound. If you have a factory head unit, you'll also need a line-level adapter to give you a source for the RCA patch cables.

If this is a head unit, you'll need the adapter harness to plug your existing stereo harnesses into the new head unit. It makes it simple - the wires on the new head unit are color-coded for what they do, and the adapter harness is identically coded. Match the colors, then plug it in. You may also need an antenna wire adapter (some cars require this).
