Turn fan switch at stat to on . does fan run? it should within 2 to 3 minutes if not sooner. if it does then you know you have low voltage and high voltage a blower and electronic brain . go outside and see of you hear a hum like a faint buzz. that is the contactor being closed and energized. check to see if outdoor disconnect has power ,usually 220 volts and then remove service panel and see if 220 volts arrives at contactor. see if spring loaded contactor points are pulled in and check to see if voltage is feeding through contactor . this will be hot! be sure you know how to use a meter and work live power. if contactor is not pulled in then you have a control voltage problem and you have to get 24 volts from stat to indoor blower to outdoor condensor. with and insulated screwdriver you can simply mash in on the contactor points and fan and compressor should run . only do this for a second or two, but it does simply say hey contactors open, ive got power and it will run but no controll volytage.IF ITS A RUUD OR A RHEEM SOME OF THEM HAVE A RESET BUTTON DOWN WHERE THE REF LINES GO IN . MASH IT IN AND IT MAY RESET, THEYTRIP OFF HIGH PRESSURE, DIRTY FILTER OR COIL IN HEAT OR A BAD FAN MOTOR OUTSIDE IN COOL.

Model Number: UACC-036JAS The unit works fine. The problem is it doesn't shut down after the specified temperature has been reached. The furnace blower shuts down, but the ac unit keeps on running....

Hello, usually a stuck contactor coil will cause this on the outside unit. When the outdoor unit runs continously and the indoor blower does not run no heat is being absoebed by the evaporator coil and thus the line freezes. Replaceing the contactor will fix the problem.

My outside unit runs a little while then shuts off.

More likely the out door fan motor has bad bearings and that would cause the out door unit to run for 15 to 20 min but it could be low on freon
when the out door unit runs after 3 to 5 min the larger of the two copper lines going into the unit should be ice cold

If the thermostat you just installed has a time delay that will keep the indoor blower motor running for up to 5 min after the unit shuts off

When I turn the air on the heat strips comes on at the same time

Is this a central heat? From the size i assume it is.
You say air conditioning on part of your question then use heat pump on another part. So it is important for us both be on the same page.
With all due respect some people think they have a heat pump and it is just AC and electric heat also but is not a heat pump.
. If you have the outdoor AC unit running with your thermostat set for heat and the air coming off the out door unit is cold, or you see it "steam up outdoors" off the out door unit at times (we call this mode defrost).

If you actually have a Heat pump system some times it is wired to have the strips come on at the same time the heat pump comes on especially if you experience a lot of weather below 40' occasionally and have an emergency heat setting on your thermostat you most likely have a heat pump.

If you have a heat pump for sure now the heaters can come on with the outdoor section if
1 they are wired to do so or
2 the thermostat has 2 stage heating and the second stage is telling the elements to come on, or
3 the outdoor thermostat (if so equipped) is telling the elements to come on.
Any 1 or combination of these 3 items can cause the elements to come on wit the out door unit.

Air unit is running constantly and no heat coming out of vents. the aux light is on on the control panel. can you tell me what i can do to fix this? the unit is only 2.5 years old.

Turn off furnace breaker, and listen to unit and watch unit, remove the door if necessary, just tape the button so it thinks the door is still on. You should get a clicking sound when the therm calls for heat. Once that happens let me know what it does.
