HI, the problem you are having is a very common problem with all portable dvd players and also all flip and slide phones and laptops and netbooks.
basically anything that has a screen that flips or slides open will get this problem, now whats causing you the problem is each time you open and close the screen this causes the data ribbon that connects the screen to the circuit board to bend, its made to do this so it always keeps a connection with the screen at all times, but what happens is that over time and use the single strand copper wires running inside this ribbon become brittle and then this either breaks or causes a weak connection like you are getting with yours, now if this was a mobile phone it would be an easy fix as its a common fault so most phone shops stock this part and will fit it for next to nothing, but as yours is a portable dvd player then this makes it a bit more difficult as these are made to be thrown away when they go wrong, which is a waste as most can be repaired, the problem is getting the spare parts is near impossible unless you can get a damaged player to get the parts from or if by some chance your local tv repair shop may have a part that matches up with the ribbon on yours.
these ribbons are cheap to buy but you may struggle to get one, the best thing to try is find your nearest tv repair shop and take it to them and ask them if they can get the ribbon for the screen or if they can match it up with another part.
their is no easy fix you do need to get this part replaced as it will only get worse the more you open and close the screen, try tv repair shop as this is your best option but failing that you will struggle to get the part unless you can buy a damaged player off the well known auction site and hope that the part you need is ok.
let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
