Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have an Acer Aspire computer that was purchased in May of this year. It has suddenly become unuseable. It starts the Acer screen and then the small Microsoft bar then it goes blank except the cursor which can be moved but at this time the keyboard is dead. The blue disk light flickers but nothing happens. I have tried starting in the safe mode but same results. I would guess that the hard drive has probably failed or Vista erased itself.

You may be correct about the hard drive failure.
But to make sure that it is the hard drive and not Vista, I would try to run the recovery cd that came with the unit. When the cd boots up, select "repair" and let it attempt to fix the problem. If the recovery fails, I would call the warranty Company for service.

White Screen Problem while starting Acer Aspire 2710z laptop

Unfortunately it sounds like bad memory. Depending on your memory configuration you can try swithing out memory sticks. Check with your manufacture about memory configuation requirment before trying this. If you're unsure how to do this it's best to take it to someone who does know how.

Acer harddrive working also in other Acer notebooks?

You can physically install the drive in any laptop with the same type. They will either be SATA or IDE. However unless you have a nearly identical system which is unlikely after a few months of buying it the windows installation is not likely to work.

The better solution would be to stop in at your local computer store and purchase a 2.5" drive caddy and install the HDD into the caddy. That caddy will then work as an external HDD on any computer you purchase allowing you not only to access the files on it but also to backup any new data.

For the slow computer, I would suggest a thorough cleanup of the hardware, and software. Take a can of compressed air and blow it into all the ventilation holes for the laptop, do the same for the computer that won't start, since this should be done one a regular basis.
Once you've cleaned out the inside of the computers, load up the computer that works, go into 'my computer' and right click on your storage drive (C, D, etc) and click 'properties'
Click the 'disk cleanup' button and let windows perform the maintenance for you. Also make sure that you have sufficient free space, if your drive gets more than 3/4 full, the performance will be comprimised.

As for the computer that won't start, try making sure that all the connections are snug, and if it still doesn't boot up, please give me the model number of the laptop and let me know if it beeps, or if you hear anything spinning up inside.

Acer Aspire 3680 screen problem

dropping a laptop doesnt mean that damage will happen instantly, alot of the time it will take a while for the damage to come into affect, it could be that the screen has become loose from its connectors, i wouldnt recommend you do this youself, LCD's are very flexible and can break easy, if it is still under warranty ring acer and ask, even if it is not, ring acer and they could advise on a action.

Acer Aspire 3050 blue screen

When you first power your computer on, you'll want to press F2 to get into the bios. If you're lucky, your bios will have the option to turn off the Automatic Restart on System Failure. It may be worded differently, but if you can turn that off, then you'll be able to see what your blue screen says.

Also, if you have your Windows XP cd (if that is your operating system), you'll want to boot up with the cd in your drive, to get to the XP Recovery Console. Run the command: chkdsk /r
(It takes about 30+mins to finish)
It will scan and repair any errors it may find on your hard drive.
