First, I would go into safe mode by pressing F8 when the computer is booting. Select the option labeled "Safe Mode with Networking"
Then I would perform a defrag on the C:drive.
Once the defrag is complete, I would try Internet Explorer and see if it will get online.
If it gets online, restart the computer and see it it will work in regular mode.

Let me know what it does.

My computer runs really slow, freezes, internet explorer hardly ever works. help!!

There is no such thing as a windows vista machine. You can install different operating systems on different machines. Your problem is most likely that you're missing drivers for the peripherals.
Download a program called "driver easy" and run it. It will tell you what drivers are missing, once you get all the drivers installed you should find things work better, like once you get your network running then internet explorer will stop having problems.

Why does my internet freeze? what can I do

If your computer as a whole is freezing, then you have to check for viruses / malware.
But, if it is only your internet that freezes up, then try resetting your Internet Explorer.
I am presuming that you are using Internet Explorer 7 or 8, as your browser.
To reset Internet Explorer (IE) :-
1. Open Internet Explorer .
2. Click Tools, and then click Delete Browsing History.
3. In Delete Browsing History, click Delete All.
4. Click to select the Also delete files and settings stored by add-ons
check box, and then click OK.
5. Switch to the Security tab.
6. Click Reset all zones to default level, and then click OK.
7. On the Advanced tab, click Reset.
8. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
9. When Internet Explorer finishes restoring the default settings, click
Close, and then click OK .
10. Uncheck Enable third-party browser extensions option in the Settings box
11. Close Internet Explorer . The changes take effect the next time that
you open Internet Explorer .
Try to reset IE, as explained above.
Even after resetting IE, if IE still freezes, then there may be some viruses / malware on your computer.

Hi,
What do you mean your computer is freezing? If it's the operating system that is freezing then it's highly doubtful that it's the new router which is at fault. If the computer is slow and unresponsive then clear your internet cache, perform a defrag and also check the drive for any errors.

To clear the internet cache right click on internet explorer and select properties from the list. In the general tab where it says browsing history click on delete and follow the on-screen messages.

To perform a defrag click on the start menu then all programs, accessories, system tools and the disk defragmenter.

To check the disk for any errors click on computer, right click on local disk c and select properties, select the tools tab and check the volume for errors. Make sure you check both boxes to fix any errors found and then be patient as it cane take some time to complete.

If the problem is the internet which is freezing then perform a speed test on your internet connection and compare the speed to what your supposed to be getting. You can perform a speed test here >>>>>>

http://www.speedtest.net

If the speed isn't what it's supposed to be then of course get your own router.
I do recommend Netgear myself as i will only have them routers for my own personal use.

Regards.

My computer is still crashing/freezing

It may be because of an y virus or trogans in your pc. Just format your c drive and reload the operating system. And before accessing other drives and internet install any antivirus softwares and update it immediately when connected to net.

I have windows vista and internet explorer keeps freezing

The problem is more than likely with Internet Explorer itself, not your computer. If you press Ctrl+Alt+Del, you can start the task manager, which will allow you to close IE without rebooting your entire computer. There's also no need to reformat your hard drive. You can try updating IE to see if that helps, or try using another browser (like Firefox, for example).

Computer Freezes when connected to internet.

The first step is to verify that you are not infected with a spyware or virus infection. The fact that you are only having freezing problems when you are connected to the internet is a sign that you may have some kind of infection.

The Geek Squad website has links to free online virus and spyware scanners that can tell you if you're infected.

http://www.geeksquad.com/tools/detail.aspx?id=377

If those scans come up as clean could you please post a Hijackthis log file so we can look at what processes you have running?

Flash 9 freezes after 1st. video plays on The Fan.

Lets Start from here:

Before you install Shockwave Player for any Windows browser, uninstall all previous versions.
In order to remove the Shockwave player, simply use the file UNWISE.EXE located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Shockwave 11. Windows users can also use the Add/Remove programs located in the Windows control panel. This will remove the Shockwave 10 player
For the Shockwave 8 and 8.5 there is an uninstaller available from the Web Players page.
Note: All applications must be closed before you run the Shockwave Player uninstaller. Quit all running applications, including all Internet Explorer or other browser windows, and all Instant Messenger clients. Check the Windows system tray carefully to make certain no applications which might possibly use Shockwave Player are still in memory.
After you have removed previous versions, you are ready to download and/or install Shockwave Player.

Before installing Shockwave Player, please check the following browser settings:
Internet Explorer ActiveX settings

Browser security settings should be chosen by you or by your system administrator. For single users who do not have an administrator, the Medium: Default Level allows you to view Shockwave content. For any Custom Level, ensure that both the "Download Signed ActiveX controls" and "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" options are set to "Prompt".

To change security level in Internet Explorer:

1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Choose Tools > Internet Options.
3. Select the Security tab.
4. Select Custom Level.
5. Find the section "ActiveX controls and plug-ins".
6. Set ' Download Signed ActiveX Controls' to Prompt.
7. Set 'Run ActiveX Controls And Plug-ins' to Prompt.

If you are having trouble installing, make sure that your Internet Explorer security level is not set to High or to a custom level that does not allow viewing of ActiveX controls.
Computer user permissions

User permissions determine whether or not you are allowed to install ActiveX controls or plug-ins. If you don't have Administrator access to Windows XP SP2, or Vista you may not be able to install Shockwave Player successfully. Administrative privileges are required for the Windows system registry and for the C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Shockwave folder.
If the ActiveX Control for Shockwave Player fails to install, download the executable installer.

If the information above has not resolved the issue, download the executable Shockwave Player installer here:

* Download and latest Shockwave Player Installer.

Save this installer to your desktop, close out all applications, and run the installer. This may help if you are having trouble with the ActiveX installation from Adobe.com. To confirm that Shockwave Player has installed successfully, please click here. The two movies will show if you have Flash and Shockwave Players installed. The version numbers of the both Players will be displayed in the test movie.
