Light is flashing on temperature control of heating pad

It does have auto shut off, and after two hours the off button, which is red, flashes. The light that starts flashing now, is green...the one that indicates the highest setting. When I do press the off button, that doesn't stop it. It just keeps flashing green until I unplug it.

  • Jeremiah Peterson
    Jeremiah Peterson Jan 08, 2012

The green light is to show that it is at max temperature. It's like a stove top, once it gets hot you can turn it off but it's still giving off heat . It's an indicator. It just shows that once you shut it off there's still heat coming from it. Give it awhile the light will shut off after it cools down.

  • Laura Jan 08, 2012

OK...thanks for your help, but the heating pad is not hot at all when the light is flashing. There are FOUR temperature settings. ALL are GREEN. I've had this heating pad over 2 years and this has never happened. I think I'm going to just toss it and get a new one.

Some pads/blnkets have an 'auto shut-off' after a period of time, eg: 10 hours ... Unplug the device to let it 'reset' it's timer might fix it..

Trust me! This thing is a piece of ****! I bought one and loved the heat options that I bought three more for my wife and two daughters and their families. The next day mine went out. Took it to Walmart and traded it for another. Still pretty happy, figured I got a bad one. Three months later not a single one is working all have blinking green lights and won't allow you to do ANYTHING but unplug it! Five and all died the exact same death. Go to Walmart and each time they act surprised! NO WAY!!! This is a chronic problem with this product. I'm contacting the company tomorrow and am going to demand an ecplaination as to why they have not take this item off the market!

This is also happening to me. I've had my Soft Heat heating pad less than a year. The green light is blinking on the highest setting. I have tried unplugging it for over 30 seconds and hitting the lowest setting. It stays on the lowest setting for about a minute or two then starts the blinking green light on the highest setting.

Unplugging don't always work. I left mine unplugged for 2 weeks still don't work. Contacted Katz and was told to return the product to them at my own expense, my personal information, return code, and make sure I use a tracking system. If you have used the pad for longer than 1-2 hours, (depending on the temperature) the Auto-Off function has been activated. You should be able to reset the pad by unplugging it from the wall for 30 seconds.

This is a very common feature on these types of simple, high-volume, low-cost home appliances known as a safety fault. This fault will temporarily (or permanently) disable the appliance and happens for several reasons: (1) an over-temp (high heat) occurrence, (2) an over-power (power surge) occurrence, (3) an under-power (power outage or trickle power) occurrence, (4) an over-time occurrence (auto-off fails), (5) a short-circuit occurrence (exposed/crossed/frayed wires, etc.). Fortunately, it uses a digital "fuse" system and can be reset by the user. However, there is no universal reset process on SoftHeat products so you just have to play with it until you figure it out (customer service dept is no help). Mine is a Kaz SoftHeat HP980PT, with a red power indicator/power-off button and 4 green heat setting buttons. Mine faulted after a heavy storm caused multiple power outages and power surges in my neighborhood. The green light on the highest heat setting button was flashing on mine. Here's how I fixed it: (1) unplugged both ends of power cord and straightened out the cord, then plugged back in to the heating pad end. (2) While holding down the flashing light button, I plugged back in to the wall outlet. (3) While still holding down the flashing light button, pressed and held down the red power-off button, then while still holding down the red power button, I released the flashing light button, followed by releasing the power-off button. This stopped the flashing green light and caused the red power indicator light to stay on (steady-on). It works fine now. Note: Some models have an actual hard fuse in addition to the digital fault feature or possibly only a simple fuse (without the digital fault system). These fuses can the found at many retail stores and then very easily replaced. I hope this helps some of you!!!

My daughters highest setting button (IIII) was flashing. She said it has done this for some time; TODAY (aug 28, 2016) after finding your answer, I unplugged it at both ends, plugged it back to heatpad, then as I held down that "normally flashing button" I plugged it back into the wall & it seems to be working fine. I told her to let me know if it happens again. will update if it does, as I will be trying the method you suggest, but adding in the pressing of the power button etc

I know how to fix it!! Not only do you have to unplug it for 30 seconds but you have to straighten/flatten your cord out again. If it's all twisted and mangled then it will blink because it's creating hotspots. Then just plug it back in and it won't blink :) Problem solved no reason to return it, because it's not broken.

I'm an electronics tech by trade and have done maintenance and repair work my whole adult life. I'm 50. I just fixed my wife's heating pad. We had the flashing light that wouldn't reset.

If you have to move the cord at all or flatten it out to make it work that means you have a fatigued wire that has broken and is no longer making good contact. Where the cord flexes the most is where the break is most likely to be. It is most likely right after the strain relief portion of the pad connector plug.

After unplugging from both the pad and the wall, you have to open up the controller and then, using an ohmmeter, check the continuity of the wires from the controller to the connector plug that goes to the pad. These are the ones that get moved around the most and are most likely to break.

Using the ohmmeter, I discoved that one of the wires had no continuity between the controller and the connector plug. After I figured out which wire, I then checked continuity from the pad connector plug to the wire buy pressing one of the meter leads through the insulation and into the wire. I then cut out the bad portion of the wire, resoldered it together and used 2 layers of heat shrink tubing as an insulator to protect the open wire. You can get the tubing a radio shack or harbor freight.

Touchpad If the display lights are flickering for no reason, the touchpad might need to be replaced. Sometimes when the touchpad is defective the display lights are flashing randomly.

Touchpad and Control Panel If the lights are flashing on the display the entire touchpad and control panel assembly might be defective. If the display works but the dishwasher functions are all out of synch, or some of the buttons don't respond properly the entire touchpad and control panel might need to be replaced.

Heating Element Assembly If lights are flashing on the control panel, the heating element assembly might have burned out. The heating element assembly heats the water up to operating temperature. After a set amount of time if the temperature isn't reached a light on the control panel might start flashing. The heating element assembly can be checked for continuity with an Ohm meter.

Sunbeam heating pad no longer heats. The red

I had same issue w/ red blinking light on my Sunbeam controller SW114, pad CAT93. Was about to toss away but then got it to work perfectly by doing this:1. With unit UNplugged, press & hold the single grey controller button2. While pressing the controller button, plug the unit inUnit will power up in the 'warm' (green light) setting; pressing the controller button will cycle you thru the others modes.
